Need Help How to start out?

Hello, just came to this site a couple days ago. Anyways, there were 2 games I could never understand. POTC, and CoAS. Sadly, they really do seem like the most fun.

So how did you guys learn what to really do at the start? Just pick it up on your way? I'm getting lost after the light tutorial is over. Not really sure what to do from there, any tips? Thanks

If you have done the tutorial, then you must be playing the Sea Hawk storyline. After the tutorial you are pretty much in free play mode. You are at the bottom of the food chain with no skills, weapons, and a small ship.
I would suggest talking to the merchant about a trade mission and go from there. Once you are at sea look at your quest book for more information.
