How hard to others find this game

I mean, I've played other role playing games. Oblivion, fallout, KOTR, but i really have a hard time with this game. every few years I remember that I love the idea of this game, I pop in the disc and play get my ass kicked as soon as I leave port, get to redmond after purchasing the wrong item for export, killed 3 times by random storms or pirates and my hull beaten to a pulp. I had hoped the mod would make it easier(and I have read that if you talk to enough people in a town they will tell you what sells well elseware), but I still really suck at this game? is it just me? or do you I just have to look up what to buy in order to ever do it right, and reload my save until I make it somewhere unmolested. Does the game get easier as you level up?

there is indeed an excessive amount of thugs everywhere, but you're not supposed to go into the jungle at a low level unless you can run, i know that. basically, most of the start is running, unless you know you have the skill to actually win. i can take a lot of things in a gunboat, but i'm sure a new player can't do that.

I think I sabotage myself. I like to everyone where but where the plot wants me to right away, which usually leads to a french fort, and my death. :)

well, PotC IS one of the few games that punishes exploring for some odd reason. i sure as hell wasn't going back out into oxbay jungle after i got minced. i guess it's got to do with the fact that the game keeps using the entire game world, so it needs to keep some areas off limits to low-level characters.
