hostile smugglers

Mothman

Landlubber
Hey,
as far as my research showed it, this is a well known problem. Once you get into a scrap with smugglers, this way of money making is closed for you. I ve read through quite some talking about, that the relationship status of the smugglers can be changed in a file, but nobody actually ever came up with the exact position.

If theres anybody out there being able to find the line, please please please do so. You wouldnt just help me...

Cheers
Martin

By the way, thanks KBLACK for helping with the log thing!

I'm afraid I simply don't know how to fix it. maybe someone else does? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Keith? Keith is the webmaster, but I don't recall him doing any PotC modding at all... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

he did the tips & tricks thingie for getting around the trader bug, so i guess he is able to deal with the code...

hmm... cant continue the game when being robbed of my main source of income... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

LOL. Then find another source of income. Joining in a country's service (Netherlands) and sinking enemy ships (French) works very well for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

well okay, just got this big load of mahagony to be sold in falaise de fleur... Man that would be quite some molaah... I dont want to dump it off just on the side of the road <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Please, is there NOBODY who could spent some 10-20min looking for the place where its saved if those darn smugglers are pissed off or not?!

I would really appreciate it!

Would It be possible to add smugglers as a nation
That way you could smothe it over with a Relation guy in pirate port

Pretty possible. Adding nations is possible. But you will need to make all smugglers a member of this nation.

well i reckon thats pretty ridiculous...
blimey, how does this stupid game know, that i killed one of the smuggler fellows? Thats the root of all evil...

If you attack a character belonging to an AI group, the entire AI group will become hostile. Usually, when you leave the island, everything's smoothed over again, but apparently it is not so with smugglers. I don't know why though, otherwise I could fix it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

hmm but do you reckon the cause is within my savegame? Or might simply reinstalling the game fix it?

The problem is in the savegame. If you start a new game, the smugglers wouldn't be hostile anymore, I think. I suppose you prefer not starting a new game though. I don't really know how AI groups being hostile works... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

To take this from an imaginary perspective vs. a coding perspective - Smugglers, just like nations work through networking. Think of it like the mob in a way. Do you think they WOULDN'T find out if one of their members was whacked?

To me, I would imagine that network, despite what may SEEM to be an isolated situation, to know full well what happened. It's slightly shotty, but ultimately what can't be changed by programming either is accepted or tossed.

Yeah, not a great description but I feel your pain. I just imagine it that way. The smugglers are the shady underworld with ears all over.

It will be interesting to see what happens with AOP, and how far they go into it. They've taken a lot of care to putting back in that which was forcibly removed from POTC due to the Bethesda/Disney licensing issue, and they are taking a lot of pride with making it as thorough (at least through this release) that they can.

An interesting model that I wish a lot of companies followed, is the Egosoft model, in doing the X space sim/strategy games. Egosoft keeps people working on the product even after product release to unveil new things, and add things with the patches, like making new objects or new things occur.

What I personally would like to see with AOP: Caribbean Tales, is for Akella to do a similar bit. Find things that would make the game more playable if they notice any after release, and do a roll-out patch with it.

hehe, alright then. I think i ll gonna have to live with it or just go back a few savegames...

Thanks for your time guys!

I will keep this problem in mind and if I ever find out how to fix it, I will. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you start a quarrel with the smugglers by means of dialogs\smuggler_on_shore.c this code turns the smugglers hostile:

case "Exit_fight":
....
LAi_group_FightGroups(LAI_GROUP_PLAYER, "Smugglers", true);
break;

To mend your relation you must run this code somewhere :

LAi_group_SetRelation(LAI_GROUP_PLAYER, "Smugglers", LAI_GROUP_NEITRAL);

E.g. one could put it into "Smuggler Agent_dialog.c", so that your next tradeoffer to a smuggleragent mends your relation.
