1.) What is the "normal" difficulty? Meaning there level where neither the AI nor I get bonuses?

2.) Should I sell the ship I start off with and buy a smaller ship?

3.) Where do I hire Ship officers??

4.) Anyway to make the game higher resolution??!!

Thanks maties

I'll take a crack Scipio,

1.) This is somewhat subjective. I used to play on Captain setting, but now it's too easy for me and I play on Corsair. I would recommend you start with the 1st or 2nd beginning setting (all the way to the left). You should also set the experienced gained toggle all the way to the right. This means you will level up much faster. Also you have an opportunity to set your players stats when you begin the scenario on the ship with the first guy you see. On beginning settings set endurance and success to 5 and talent to about 6 because they aren't going to matter so much with the advantages the beginning settings gives you. Then set Authority and Power as high as you can. Authority will allow you to hire more men and keep them happy (less mutiny) more effectively. Power allows you to carry more and you are stronger to begin with in a fight. As far as AI is concerned it's not just a matter of AI. These settings mostly cause number changes: harder for you to be hit, better chance of hitting, higher luck/success rates: in short, everything is easier. This game is so hard though that you need to set it there to learn it and not get frustrated. You'll want to set it harder and will enjoy it more when you start a new game later once you fully have the hang of it.

2.) Depends on what character you start with. If it's Peter Blood and the English, try to keep that ship (Arabella) by either putting her in at the Harbor master or having someone else captain her when you capture another little ship that you captain. With you and your officer skills at the beginning she's way too hard to handle and will be so slow to move and reload that you will frustrate yourself to death. Any other ship that you begin with is fine because you start with class 5 or 6 ships. If you have negative numbers in parenthesis next to your stats it means the ship is beyond your skills.

3). Taverns

4). A lot of folks ask this question. You can tweak your video card and screen setting to get a better appearance but unfortunately the answer is no.

You can change the game's resolution to ANYTHING in engine.ini, including widescreen resolutions.
