A name on the stern IS possible, Adobe Photoshop has an option where you can put letters on you skin.

PS, i think it is better to capture the victory from the lobsters and the amsterdam of the cheeseheads, with the best ship there is, THE PEARL

It is possible to add names to the stern of ships, but it's not possible to make that name reflect the actual ship's name so this can only be done for unique ships. Otherwise every ship of the same type would appear to have the same name, which would be odd.

To Thomas the Terror: If you want to sail the Amsterdam, you're probably playing for the Dutch. And I don't want to have to capture her FROM the Dutch if I'm playing FOR the Dutch. So there should be another way of getting her. Same goes for the Victory.

@ Pieter: wait a sec...YOU CAN BAN PEOPLE!? what system are these forums working on? PHP? my forums [www.rpgtopia.com] run on PHPBB, but only the Admin can ban people...

and yeah, i know the name can't be made to reflect the individual ship's name. i mean, the game would need something to center it on the stern, something to insert the name onto the stern in just the right place, and another thing to rub it out and make a new one when someone changed the name, and all that would need to be linked with the game in some way, so that it woud be accessable via interface. and i agree that we shouldn't have to capture our respective nations' ships from them, other than in certain circumstances, like the main quest in PotC for the Victory.
