Gold found near X

Hi all,

What are you supposed to do when Tavern keeper tells you "Gold has been found near X" in the news tab?
I went into a mine near Bridgetown, but can't seem to figure out what to do, if I can 'mine' for gold or if I have to 'steal' it or so...
Any place I can get info on the different side-quests available and guides?

Those events are nothing to do with side quests. They can affect the town's wealth, and may be of significance if you have a large enough ship to take on the fort and raid the town.
