Fort Cannon Range and plunging shot

The range of the plunging shot from the forts seems to be way much further than it used to be <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> , if your thinking of hiding in a bay the other side of an isthmous away from the fort you are attacking <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> , you come under fire <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> , then you leg it out to sea a couple of thousand yards and your still in range <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> i dont think this is entirely accurate the nature of plunging shot is innacurate and the trajectory does'nt allow the range <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> anyone else feeling this <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> or any thoughts <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />
 
I don't know if these have been implemented into any mod, but here are ranges for cannon from 1627-

66 pound shot 1930 paces
30.25 pound shot 1700 paces
9.33 pound shot 2500 paces
7 pound shot 1800 paces
5.3 pound shot 1700 paces
4 pound shot 1800 paces
3 pound shot 1500 paces
1.25 pound shot 1400 paces
1/2 pound shot 1000 paces

Some interesting numbers there if the forts cannon are heavy ordnance like the 66lb , with the pace probalbly being a yard then certainly even at the extreme range it wouldnt be as accurate as what i am coming across in game , cheers for the input <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have set my guns in BSh this way:

#define USE_REAL_CANNONS 1
#define CANNON_RANGE_SCALAR 0.3......(0.5)
#define FIRE_ANGLE_SCALAR_W 2.0
#define FIRE_ANGLE_SCALAR_H 0.1........(0.5)
(Figures in () are more than realistic but maybe better for game.)
This gives 4lbs gun 400.. (675)meters, nearly potc default I think.
Medium weight guns pb range was about 800 m. High from water??
So 400m was about max in "real fight" ship to ship.
My FIRE_ANGLE_SCALAR_H 0.1....(0.5)
Is my "game realistic" pb effect. As ship rolls gun range varies.
pb is no elevation straight line shoot.
If fort shoots at mountains etc, is it realistic??
What is "game realistic" or "real realistic" are different things I think.
Fort can shoot at longer ranges with skip shooting,I think.

The 32 pounder cannon weighs 3.5 tonnes - 2.75 tonnes for the gun barrel and 0.75 tonnes for the wooden gun carriage. It fired a 32 pound (14.7Kg) ball, usually propelled by an 11 pound (5Kg) gunpowder charge giving a muzzle velocity of 1600 feet per second (487 metres per second). Fired from the lower gun deck, with the muzzles some 2m above the waterline, this gave a point blank (fired flat) range of approximately 1000 feet (300m).
Best range was 100 yards. HMS Victory

The file is \PROGRAM\BuildSettings.h.
With this file you can enable and change different game and mod settings.
If you do not want fort to fire on the other side of bay then maybe you
need to play little more with these settings.
#define CANNON_RANGE_SCALAR Maybe 0.35 or 0.4 is ok for fort range.
