For want of an undead monkey

Mates, what are the bests tools for manipulating and screen capturing the undead mokeys in PotC? Half the tools seem to be missing, and I've got no clue how to use Inez's wonderful contraption. So, please, give an old pyrate at least a bearing to follow. Cheers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

My most esteemed Mad Jack, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

The most effective tool for manipulating the undead monkeys is none other than dear old Fred Bob's patented, <b>"Quaker Exploit"</b>. If you approach the aforementioned monkeys with no weapons in your possession, they will sit quietly and undisturbed and ponder their simian axioms in maiden meditation, fancy free.

Following the <b>"Quaker Exploit"</b>, you can approach without fear these normally ravenous and venomous scamps, and take in-game shots by either depressing Print Screen, (for one picture) or F8 to obtain a series of candid photos of this feral creature in his native habitat. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/monkeydance.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mi" border="0" alt="monkeydance.gif" />

Failing that, you can always try our old standby of offering them a deal on some prime real estate in Florida, (they are really quite easy to manipulate in that manner) however, as few of the monkeys have any funds with which to purchase the apocryphal Florida real estate it is often considered a waste of time. (Nothing wrong with that! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> )

Not sure what other manipulation of these monkeys you are trying to accomplish, if you obtain the TX convertor and use a photoshop program you can manipulate the textures the monkey's model uses. With Inez's TOOL you could make some really large monkeys to replace the "fun-sized" monkeys that currently inhabit the game, but without a 3D modeling program of some kind that's the only thing you could change, that I can think of. The TOOL is really helpful for doing this because it allows you to export gm models to vrml format, which can then be imported into a 3D modeling program, saved as vrml's, imported with the TOOL back into POTC, where they can be saved as gm's that should work in POTC.

Mings needs more information and will recite a poem by William Carlos Willams until he gets it.

<b>The Undead Monkey</b>
by William Carlos Williams

So much depends
on an undead monkey
under the stars,
the head is tilted back,
the long shadow of the legs
presumes a world taken for granted
on which the cricket trills"

Oh, for shyte's sake! I need the tools to help me dig up a blippin' dead monkey, and manipulate him as I will. My motives are impure, which is why I thought you could help me.... ~MJ

Aye that's the same behaviour that'll cost ye yer ship mate..

Sorry if i do not go near any monkeys mate, dead or alive so that be meanin' not a clue...

Hmmm.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />, let's try this,

If you're going to manipulate the textures, you need the TX converter

<a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/txconverter.zip" target="_blank">http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/txconverter.zip</a>

to convert the tga.tx files to tga format, and a photoshop program of some kind to edit the tga. And then use the TX converter to convert them back.

You can use the GM viewer

<a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/ModelView.rar" target="_blank">http://robotsdontbleed.com/suraknar/tools/ModelView.rar</a>

to both identify the GM and export them as obj files that can be altered in a 3d modeling program, converted to vrml files, which can be loaded back into POTC using TOOL

<a href="http://home.arcor.de/swigard/Downloads/TOOL/" target="_blank">http://home.arcor.de/swigard/Downloads/TOOL/</a>

All of these links worked when I tried them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

You know that I'm always happy to assist in any impure undertaking, and I was only half-kidding about the "Quaker Exploit" because I read "screencaptures" as in game pictures, and the monkeys are difficult subjects for pictures because unless you are using the "Quaker Exploit" they keep jumping around and try to poison you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/monkeydance.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mi" border="0" alt="monkeydance.gif" />

Send me a PM if this isn't helpful, and I'll try to set up whatever files you need. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

Here's a Stephen Crane Poem to make up for the William Carlos Williams poem:

<b>In the desert, with monkeys</b>
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter -- bitter," he answered;
What I wouldn't give for a diet soda!"

Most of the modding tools are available from <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/tools.htm" target="_blank">this page</a>, in case anyone needs to find some tools again.
