Some of the extras that you are offered in taverns are obviously desirable, but are they all? I haven`t bothered with anything to do with the jesuits or indians. Am I missing out on something?
I think the dancing slippers are one of the best items.
As for the pistols - before you get one, nobody has one. When you get one, everybody else has one, completely nullifying their effect - they shoot you - you shoot back.
I haven`t managed to make use of the spyglass yet and I`ve finished the game a couple of times.
I`ve just bought another pirate game and it has a fantastic coloured map of the whole area covered in Pirates. It sits on my desk and is a really useful item.

What more useful info? More useful than wher your family is, and that there are people who need escorting?

And as for pistols - look carefully. They always <i>miss!</i> There is a HUGE benefit to buying them!

Port Royal 2. Got it for £20 from Game. Haven`t played it yet. Too involved with Pirates.

The pistols improve your starting position. single pistol give u a 1 space advantage and dual pistols give 2 i think.

yeah 1 step for 1 pistol and 2 steps for a brace is exactly correct...as far as a random free step forward, ive yet to see that (but then again ive yet to see a ship of the line).

To get it in this thread, there are `Must-get`, should- get and don´`t-pay`-`for-them` items.
The Must- get items are (in my opinion!):
- balanced swords
- armor
- dancing shoes
- medcine
- rings and necklaces (not sure about these)

`should-get` items are:
- pistols
- weather glass
- music instuments

The rest are things, that might be nice to have, but not all that necessary. These items do, of course, NOT include ship upgrades, with them, it´s take what you can.
