English = pirates?

Fluen

Freebooter
I have approached the governor at Falaise de Fleur and have asked for a mission that also existed in the un-modified version of POTC. In the original version I had to sink an English corvette named "Fast Death" terrorizing the waters around the island.

But now it appears to be a pirate corvette, even though the quest text and the dialogue still says it's an English ship. Can I be certain it's nationality has completely changed to pirate? I don't want to have the English as my enemies right now.

If yes, I'm going to edit the dialogues and quest texts.

well, i think the ship is a pirate corvette simply to PREVENT problems with the english. but it would indeed make more sense if it would be named a pirate and not english.

I think it always was a pirate ship. Perhaps it's an English pirate? In any case: I never had any relation problems with the English after taking/sinking that ship. I thought one of the first things I ever modded for the game was to change that dialog description. It says "Pirate Corvette" in my own game and so it should in yours if you're using Build 13.

nope, it was called an englishman, but the ship was of pirate nationality. the captain was an english officer. i did the quest in the stock game not so long ago. the quest is still the same in build 12.1

The French governor's dialog should say "Pirate Corvette". I know it should; I just checked. Perhaps the questtext still doesn't though. Would be nice to have that changed as well.

Fine. I didn't have relationship problems with the English in the original game and sinking it in the modded version (12.1) didn't seem to affect the relationship either. I'll edit my dialogues and questtext. By the way: is there a FAQ for people who want to begin modding (I have sunk my teeth into the dialouges c-files and want to correct minor details such as make Rachel Blacque disappear when the Blacques-quest is all done and make the right quest texts appear when I do the smuggling job for Thomas O'Reily, but I am nervous about causing errors that disturb other gameplay).

You're using Build 12.1? That explains why the dialog wasn't changed. I changed it in Build 13. First of all for modding it is the most useful if you use a recent modpack version; otherwise you might make incompatible mods or you would change stuff that has already been changed by someone else. That would be a shame. Other than that most modding is based on messing around; at least for me it was. If you need help with anything, you can always post on the forum, but a tutorial on modding would be massive, because modding is a very wide subject and there are a lot of options.

i can indeed remember that it was changed in a later build version, so i can confirm that. making mods for build 12.1 isn't very useful indeed, unless you want to make a build 12.2, which could be nice. the thing is that build 12.1 is crashless, and therefore a good base for mods.

The bad thing is that Build 12.1 is outdated and therefore a bad base for mods. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Well, it was mostly to change minor irritations in the dialogues and perhaps add some of the questtexts I've noticed you people have made, but not yet added to the game. Maybe make my own questtexts to the Elzire-quest (the woman who has abandoned the church in Falaise de Fleur).

It was just as much meant as a challenge for myself. To use the newer build packs I'll have to buy a much bigger USB-key for the download and I don't know if I'm ready to spend that money - even though the treasure quests are very tempting. I am a Tomb Raider by heart - don't know what type of pirate that makes me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

If you want to do modding for the community, it really is best if you base your mods on Build 13 or later, because SO much was changed since Build 12.1 that merging your changes with the rest of our work would be really quite hard. Could you not download the Build and put it on a CD or something? Instead of a USB stick?

Ye can only be find'n the "Tomb Raider" in Build 13 and up.

I'm sorry. All piratin' would be comin' tew a screechin' halt with that there lass around. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Sorry Pieter. I have expressed myself wrongly.

I have no ambition about doing modding for others than myself. As I tried to express I am a pure beginner and just want to fiddle with my own version of the game. That way I can make tiny changes and experiments. If I make an error I have only troubled myself.

It's the same thing I do in the Tomb Raider societey: tamper with things and afterwards share my new knowledge.

Is the exploring type the Italian swashbucler in the poll?

No problem. I was just thinking about when you do something for yourself that can be used for the modpack as well. But you are, of course, free to do what you want. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The "What type of pirate are you?" poll is just a random question. It doesn't refer to any character models or anything. I think that poll is even older than Petros' character model. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yep, that question was posted in Dec. 2003.

L. Croft didn't join my crew until May 2005. ... Glad she did! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Oh, and let's not forget Pieter's favorite ...

Out of curiosity: what about the gameplay when you play a female character? The dialogs in the original game are made for a male character. Is that something you have modified?

Personally I'd find it a bit odd to play a female character and meet Danielle at the tavern and talk about abiding love. But maybe I'm the odd one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Danielle is not replaced. I agree it's somewhat odd, but in theory it is still possible to change this for a later modpack version. If somebody is wiling and capable of doing it.
