Effin Dos Crap Is Peein Me off!

Whenever I download the 9 alpha full, it becomes a dos file and i cant open it. This happens whereever I download it from. Its really REALLY annoying me now cos i really wna get bug reporting. The 9.5 patch works fine but its just the full thats proving a nuisance. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> I postd this in the build thread but its such a problem that Ive put it in here, and besides the alpha 9 thread fills up too fast to find my reply. Is it a zip or exe or what? It downloads as a zip, extention is exe, and opens as an ms-dos app. WHY? Is this a common problem at all? I really wanna get playing cos this mod looks so brill! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

True; "New Horizons" isn't the most original name. But it is an appropriate one.

Your problem has me completely confused though and it's definitly not common.
What do you mean by "it downloads as a ZIP"?
The Build 14 Alpha 9 Full installer is an EXE file, even though it was made with 7-Zip.
Have you tried with a different computer?

What its doing now is really bad; its not deleting!!!!!!!! No matter where it is or what media its on it just says 'windows is using this file' and doesnt delete, move or rename!

Yes I have; home and network machines. All do the same thing. See thats what i thought; its an exe gone wrong, but i think a virus might have gotten to it somewhere along the download process cos it really is screwed. Its the correct size, and thats the problem; ms-dos doesnt want to open a file thats 900 meg big cos it doesnt have the memory so i dont even know what would happen if it did open 'as is'.

Its so weird. do you want me to send you a scr.shot of the properties tabs or something? Its doing it on every download of alpha 9 full I take from moddb or gamershell so im pretty sure its something im doing or the computers doing.

I know; i wasn't knocking the title; I like it It was just Daj a vu!

And not just you are stumped about this one. Have you tried downloading from a computer that has a completely seperate internet connection?
Alternatively, have you tried downloading from this site instead of ModDB/Gamershell? Did you try to install on a different computer?
If you reboot your computer, can you still not delete the file? I don't think I'll be able to understand anything from the Properties tab.
As it is, I'm not understanding anything <i>at all</i>.

No matter what i do, short of reformatting/erasing my hard drive, it just will not delete. And ive tried machines all over; friends computers, network machines; even macbook laptops and nothing works. It must be the local area or something i, myself, am doing to it. yeah i tried the link here but it still did it; but ive just found a strategy informer link which seems to be downloading it as an exe and its doing it at 700kb/s so it wont be long and ill see what happens. if this link doesnt work then ill scream! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> ill keep you posted pieter. I seem to get all the weird problems, dont i.

What do you mean with "downloading an an EXE"? You can just add the .exe extention if it doesn't have it, right?

No see thats the annoying thing; it still doesnt open no matter what ext or what app i open it with or as. It has a .exe extension as default; thats why im so stumped in the first place because why is an exe openeing as a blazin' dos file? Its almost as if its completkly ignoring everything i do to it. thats why i thought initially that it was a virus of some sort. It seems to have a 'shell'm of some sort protecting it.

AHHHH! Its done it again!!! everytime it does this i have to erase my mem stick as well to get rid of the last one!!!!

No wait it hasnty. Ivejust got the install box . YAY! Its still reghistering as an msdos but at least its working! Theres no potc icon ; only the box icon but its meant to be like that right? right im gonna install it onto my stick in case it doesnt open again. Then im guarenteed itll work!

Hmm. Its copying onto my stick as a dos file, but while its on the computer its ok. right well im extracting it onto the stick. See if that works...

rIght it seems to working good, provided 1.50gig is enough for the whole mod on my stick Ill report back tomorrow if its worked or not. So you say i can literally just copy it over build 13 final and then run the batch?

Ok then; i have a 4gig stick at home; that should do it. Oh dammit; ive just installed it onto my hard drive and its only 500 meg big so it cant have extracted right. WHY!?!?!?! its installed all the folders but its surely not that small is it? And if my stick wasnt big enough for it, as indeed it wasnt, then how the hell can it be that small unless its installed differently?


OK then ive just installed it elsewhere and its 2.60gig. That sounds about right doesnt it so ill copy that 2morrow and report bak on wednesday whether or not it works1 Thanks again, pieter.
