hi there!!!

i have a problem with the directx

i have installed the game and the directx c9.0 but when i launch the game it said after som seconds that "Unable to initialize directx.
view the readme file for possible solution on this error."

i have looked on the readme and i havent found anytning..

i have the latest uppdates from the grafikcard..

i dont no what else is wrong, i have installed the game several times but i get the same answere all the time....

pls help me...
 
hmm u sure u downloaded the drivers? cuz u need driversfor ur graphic card to support d9.0 c i had smae problem when i updated it everything worked fine <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
yes i downloaded the uppdates and it still not works..

but what do you mean by drivers for the grafic card..
the uppdates is at the same place arent they? and it includes everything doesn it?
 
I have the exact same problem and I've emailed Atari Support about it.

Both Video and Audio drivers have been updated to newest available and I even bothered reinstalling DX9.0c after the drivers were updated. Yet, as soon as I run it (with hardware acceleration at half mast b/c otherwise my comp reboots due to a driver experiencing an infintie loop for some reason...???) I get "DirectX cannot initialize" and it shuts down. What a pain in the ass.

Any ideas?

FYI, my comp more than passes all necessary hardware/software req's, so don' mention them.
 
I've since disabled my sound card to no avail, same ol msg. Also, I've noticed in my config.ini files that while there are some values issued, some are blank.

I'm beginning to think this is more of an DX audio problem as opposed to video, but I'm at a loss afer all the damn settings I've been mucking around with. From all the issues I've been hearing about people have and it's only been out a little.... geez, someone sure didn't seem to do a decent job of getting the game in the right gear before shipping. Bah. I think I just might return it.
 
The game was working perfectly for me, but now today its giving me the same message, I reinstalled DX9.0C but I still get it, ill try drivers later

No response from Atari as of yet... it's been 3 days now I think they they said generally answered in 4. So... maybe tomorrow? Hopefully it won't be a canned response from some useless techie who doesn't know what the problem is b/c he hasn't bothered reading my email or att the crap I sent in along with it :/ Bah!
 
What kind of video card do you have?

I wonder if that's what's causing it....?

Haven't had an issue with any other game before this... without having to mess around with hardware acceleration nor DX. Like I said before, I have to trim down my hardware accel or the comp reboots. Looks like I'm going to have to fiddle w/ more settings :/
 
Well, I've got good news in any case.... and Atari support never got back to me.

I (for the 3rd time) reinstalled DX9.0c once I saw that Direct 3D wasn't working for some reason along with everything else.

That seems to have done it, and the entire few hours I played last night there were no crashes. Although, the mouse pointer did look messed up most of the time... and while I've heard other people talk about it, I'll look it up now that I don't have to worry about other stuff.

So... the point is, make sure everthing is working in DXDiag and then reinstall overtop if necessary. Cheers and good luck to all.
 
try this fix.

go to start, run,

type dxdiag

go to the display tab.

you must enable directdraw and direct3d accelerations.

then goto start, control panel, display.

settings tab, advanced, troubleshoot...

the slider must be at full acceleration or one notch left of full, anything less will cause a failure.

Not true.

My accel was at full and it was causing my comp to crash. I put it on the 4th notch out of 5 and the game works like a charm.

HAd the same problem on my VIAO laptop and believed it was hopeless, thankfully I could play on my desktop system at home! But the trouble is after reading that last post I realized that I left the DVD in my desktop and I'm out of state at the inlaws for Xmas for 2 WEEKS! everything works, except this game
 
I had the same problem (unable to initialize directx...) with 61.77 drivers. After installing nvidia 66.93 drivers the game runs, but now it crashes after 10 min <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
 
A solution to the DirectX problem, I believe. I had the same issues, DirectX cannot be initialized when I have the latest drivers and all is well and good with the machine. My problem, I realized, is that I had bumped resolution in the game to 1024x768 the last time I played, so I went into the config file and changed back to 800x600 and dropped detail down a bit and guess what, it fired right up.
 
Ooohh... I was looking how to solve the problems that I was findig with the game and I think that I finally get the answer... The worst answer...

I have a vid card like this:
SIS 300/305/630/540/730
Chip: SIS 630
32 Mb.

I thought that the problem was try to actualizate my principal controller (sis300iv.dll) in order to compatilize it wiht the dammed directx 9... but now i read that the "migth" be that my card doesn ´t support T L...

Thats is the end? I can´t do anythig but buying a new vid card?

HELP!
