Solved direct sailing

in the NK.c file is the 30,000 island cell the change value or the 5,000 value, i see two sets of direct sail numbers that indicate island cell change. Just yesterday i left jamaica and it took me 7 hours real time to get to bonaire, but i was trying to get to nevis. What i was doing was changing direction slightly trying to activate a cell, i mean hell i was 38,000 miles east of jamaica and you would think i would hit puerto rico or something. BTW i'm playing the ironman setting. Any thoughts on this ?

Seven hours real time? That sounds excessive. How much time was that in game time? I use the open sea mod and it is set so that you should be able to sail from Havana to Grenada in less than 30 days in an average merchant ship.

It is easy to miss the islands completely as they are really small. Study the map and plot your course carefully.

How much time in real time would it take to sail from one island to another depending on the distance when using direct sail anyway?
It looks like its time consuming which is probably good actually if your waiting for someone or something and you want the game progress slowly. :yes
But Seven Hours? Phew! :facepalm That's really long.. I probably captured 2 or 3 towns by then in Arcade Mode.

Until a few months ago when Pieter fixed it I did all my sailing in straight time and read a lot of books. I don't remember exactly, but methinks the longest voyages took about 3-4 hours and most took less than 1 hour.

Wow! :shock 2-3hrs?! :facepalm Oh God that's or must be frustrating..and I'm impressed ya'll do direct sailing with this game especially iron man mode:thumbs1. :pflag

trust me its frustrating although i was taking care of stuff around the house anyway, but i guess i'll have to be more accurate in my sailing directions. I wonder if fast forward 10x would make me pass an island?

Why are you using island cell things? That is an old version of the code and I'm not sure if that even works anymore.
It is OFF by default anyway, so I'm a bit confused....

10X time can have you sailing right past an island easily. The message might appear that you are approaching Hispaniola off the port bow but you can not see the island and won't unless you change course. If you don't see that message because you are in another room...................Africa here I come!

I don't think you'll have that problem with Open Sea Mode OFF, really. There you usually are reloaded in sight of the next island.

thanks guys, maybe i do not know about new sailing features, i just sail in the direction of an island and wait for the distance 5000 to be exhausted before the program searches for the nearest island. i will not sail 10x any more

Open Sea Mod is always OFF, unless:
- You play on Iron Man Mode
or
- You deliberately enabled it at the top of PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h
Time compression shouldn't be much of a problem. I regularly use 30x and arrive just fine.
Note that DirectSail doesn't work with that distance of 5000 anymore; it takes its coordinates and therefore voyage lengths directly from the WorldMap.
