yup. probably a dublicate of another function.... its one which was used in the leveling code before I rewrote it I believe

i did some test with the file you modified Levis
here are the results with black flag story

Jack "First Mate" lvl "5" free abilities points "1" had "iron will" abilities --> lvl 6 free points "2" no abilities purchased

David "navigator" lvl "5" free abilities points "2" had "speed increasing" and "Maneuverability" abilities--> lvl 6 free points "3" no abilities purchased

Brian "Gunner" lvl "5" free abilities points "0" had "increased ship damage" "increased Sail damage" "increased volley range" abilities--> lvl 6 free points "1" no abilities purchased

Killian "Boatswin" lvl "5" free abilities points "2" had "long range boarding"--> lvl 7 free points "4" no abilities purchased

Emily "Surgeon" lvl "5" free abilities points "1" had no abilities --> lvl 6 free points "2" no abilities purchased

Uriah "Carpenter" lvl "5" free abilities points "0" had "speed increase" "Emergency repairs" abilities --> lvl 6 free points "1" no abilities purchased

Angus "Quartermaster" lvl "5" free abilities points "2" had "Evade Coast guard" "Basic commerce" abilities --> lvl 6 free points "3" no abilities purchased

and none were in my party i think its fixed i used XP sharing did some boarding with cheat enabled for testing sake XD
