why is it , when the crew member which you have aquired by speaking with one of the crew members on the ship deck i.e (asks you if you need men to go ashore with you), after being slained by the enemy comes back to you when you hire a new crew member in the city or tavern. I think its great at first because if you equip that crew member with an awesome weapon and he gets killed, he will return with that weapon and of course i looted his body to retrieve that weapon but only for one time and after that every time he gets killed you can not loot his body but he will return with all his equipment. Is there a way so that when your crew member gets killed he does not return? So when i hire a new member, he starts from scratch.
 
I have just been noticing that when one gets a reward ship the officer that comes with it is one of your previous officers who was killed, and he comes fully equipped. So this happens with crew now too?

This is something new. I do not know where in the code what got changed, but it is in beta 2.2 methinks.
 
The way this was coded uses consecutive numbers for the crewmember IDs. So when crewmember #2 dies, #4 will disappear and #2 comes back.
I think that is what is happening, in any case.

That does not make sense - I thought consecutive numbers were 2,3,4,5 etc. - so what happened to crewmember #3 -

so, is this a code that can not be changed? I think why even hire an officer when you can have a crew member that never goes away. Even when i give a new uniform to that member, that member will come back as that character along with all the previous weapons that the deceased member had. Kind of takes the reality out of the game let alone the challenge keeping your crew member alive with expensive weapons and healing potions. Especially, when allthat experience that member aquires and could be lost in a fight by getting killed.
 
If you don't like it, don't do it. I have found that the resurrected officers often will not fight anymore in boardings, so they are pretty worthless.
 
Could it be that when it was made possible to develope a crew-members abilities - and to hire them as officers - that some other bits of the code got damaged ?

I have looked for the thread where developing crew members abilities is - but I can't find it at the moment.

Well, it CAN be changed, but would need to be rewritten.

The hiring crewmembers as officers code shouldn't interfere with anything else; if I recall, I even had them change their IDs to prevent crazy stuff.

What I meant with "consecutive numbers" is that if you have four crewmembers, they'll always be the guys with IDs #1, #2, #3 and #4.
When #2 dies, you have three crewmembers left. These would be crewmembers #1, #2 and #3. In other words: #2 returns and #4 is the one that is gone.
 
Well, it's my opion that the option to hire a crew member as an officer is a great feature in this mod, although, i would not mind seeing that particular member as an crew member and NOT an officer, not have the ability to return after being slained as he or she once were. But if it is alot of work to re-write the script, then i'll just have to live with it. So ist das leben.
 
You want to put the officer back to being a crewmember? You can change the officer's name and outfit to make them not look alike.
I vaguely remember already putting in some code to auto-generate a different look and name for his replacement crewmember.
Apparently it doesn't work quite right? :(
 
been away on assignment for 2 days, but answering question is no. From the beginning, you talk to a someone on the ships deck and they say "aye, it was a glorious fight" and i reply i want two men to go ashore with me. On shore there's the two men (crewmembers) then i give them the best weapons and medicine. In fight they get killed but when i ask for two new men to go ashore with me, those new men have the same weapons that the other slained men had, so basically they are the same men. The bonus is that you can equiped the first men and after being killed you can loot their bodies, but only one time other than that they just come back with the same weapons you gave them at first. So, you never have to worry about losing all that investment you put into those men and i was wondering if that could be fixed. Now, if you hire them as an officer and they get killed they do not come back.Oh yeah, does the longitude and latitude positions still show some how by pressing (F12) but only with equipment that you have to buy?You know, to let you know how many miles you are from the island. Thanks
 
It would take someone who knows the code to look into your issue with crew.

If you have a sextant and good compass your ships position will show on the world map. But it is very unreliable. One time you look you might be to the west of an island and the next time you look you might be to the east of that island.
As far as I know F12 only works the console.
 
The console does have some coordinate code in it, but it's not useful for gameplay purposes.
You can enable it by opening PROGRAM\console.c, find switch(0) and replace with switch(1) at the top of the file.

I think when a crewmember dies, we should automatically take his weapons away then.
Not sure when we might be able to do that; at the moment I'm too busy with real life and I'll probably forget again. *slaps head*
 
hey pieter, i don't care about looting a dead crew member, i just do not want the new crew member to have the same weapons that the old crew member had when he got killed. That's all i am concerned about. Remember these are the men you ask to come ashore with you as an escort and not officers you had hired in town or in the tavern. Thanks again for the reply
 
We should put some code in place to remove the weapons from any killed crewmember then, I suppose.
