Easy. He took a screenshot while on top of the Redmond church bell tower, and he then put in the spyglass feel with an image editing program, and then, for the second picture, he zoomed in and cropped the image, then enlarged it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Well, you're right about the first one. It was taken from the bell tower.
The second one wasn't. You can't get that high a res image from that far out. Instead I took it from somewhere near the store.

Now the real hard part was convincing the young lass to come to the window before the guards spotted me on the roof tops! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
 
Heh... I wasn't going to give away the "secret"... But very clever, I love it...

Wonder if there's a way to actually PUT someone in a window like that... I guess you could alter the texture...

I've often thought it would be fun to have some windows open (like in Isla Muelle, for instance) when you're walking down the streets of a town.

I just looked at some texture files and it looks like they only have one window in each and that part of the file is applied to all windows of the given model of building.

If we added a person to a window, that person would appear in every window X # of times all around the mansion.

The trick might be to change code in a building model that references one specific window (if that is possible) and have it point to a seperate texture file of "window with person" <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
 
There is only one way I can think of to do what you'd like, without editing the existing model(s) any.

And that is:
Create a single plane just the right size to cover the window (in a 3D program).
Give it the texture you want for the window.
Use Inez's tool to export it as an NPC model.
Assign it to an NPC and place it (via TeleportCharacter, what I use for sidestep) at the exact correct position to be 0.001 units (or whatever) in front of the existing window texture to cover it up.
 
YES, Nathan, that was just what I was thinking - because I knew, as Capt. Petros mentions, there is only one window texture...

Particles don't do collision detection, SFAIK. So no splashes.

Wait--if you time it _just_ right, you create a second particle system at the splash point, timed to go off when the first particle hits.
 
I have a question.

What is an "NPC model"?

Is that something/person that can be interacted with?
 
NPC = `Non-Player` Character.
I.E. everybody but you, in the game.
What we're talking about is, the only way we know so far to place geometry where there's no locator, is to give the geometry to an NPC and place the NPC there, and disable any interaction with it--thereby making it a "fake" static object.

OK I thought that was what it was.

In that case, it might be better to leave interaction enabled so as to allow the "character behind window" to interact as part of a new quest, e.g.: initial contact to receive a mission, deliver a message, rescue a hostage ... the hostage could even be the person in the window ... that is unless she throws slop at you.

Of course if the NPC "fake window/person" acts like other NPCs shifting their weight and moving back and forth, then I guess that would not be good.
 
Well you can have them stand in one spot instead of walk around. They'd still move, shift weight &tc, and even look like they were talking to someone (gesture & such)... That would be okay, I'd think...

I believe that if you export a model with no bone weightings then the animations (like the idle ones, the gestures, etc.) won't play.
