Solved Crash issue & a couple questions

AudioKing

Landlubber
After I sail to a new island, the game crashes when I try to go to port.

I need instructions on how to fight on land. Any land confrontation results in my immediate death.

What are all the hotkeys? For example, I saw in the manual R was to speed up, but the only way I determined that G was to slow down, was by randomly hitting keys until I found G slowed time back down.

Is there a manual or tutorial other than the "Embracing Adversity"? I would like something more detailed, that is more helpful for a complete noob.

What island? What port? And what are your hardware specs? That crashing might be hardware related.

Ah yes, fighting. It is very difficult and is mostly about timing. The Standard storyline is recommended for new players because it has a tutorial at the start that includes practice at sword fighting with Malcolm. You want to leave there with a melee skill of 3 - 4.
Once you get going there are things that can be bought that help, like better swords, books, and the opium den on Jamaica. Look for Toff Orfmann in a certain tavern.
Hiring officers with good melee skills also helps as you can hide behind them until you get better. But the bottom line is that you start out at the bottom of the food chain.

To find out which keys do what go to your POTC--->PROGRAM--->CONTROLS--->defaultcontrols.h folder and you will find all of the buttons listed there. You can also change them to suit yourself there.

plus..you always check the options before playing a game to check the controls and other thingies about it..--and maybe make a couple of tweaks
..unless you're already very familiar about the game you are trying to play with.:p

please provide the .log files from the POTC folder so we can see what you did.

Thanks for the replies. I found the defaultcontrols.h. Thanks for that. I don't know about my computer specs, other than it is a newer high end, custom built machine, with a top of the line Nvidia video card. I don't know how to access the .log files - heck, I feel proud of myself that I was able to get the mod installed and working in the first place.

Anway, I finished the original game 10 years ago, and remember I really liked the game. That being said, even if the game wasn't crashing, I don't think I am going to play it. When I compare the 2003 combat mechanics to a game like War of the Roses, released in 2012, there is not enough nostalgia in me to get myself to play it. Also, I thought it was going to be easier to relearn to play it after 10 years - boy was I wrong!

I think I need to wait for a game to come out that has Pirates of the Burning Sea ship combat and War of the Roses melee combat
