I couldn't find an existing thread, so started a new one.

Combat has changed. It seems melee skills keep improving at higher levels than before. This is good. It appears that improvement levels off somewhere around level 18-20 now.
Something odd has happened to damage in combat. I normally lose a lot of HP very quickly, but I have started meeting opponents who cause little or no damage at all. o_O At level 22 I just took 2 surrendered ships whose Captains wanted to fight. I took no damage at all from the strong one and only enough to need one bandage from the 2nd. This is most odd. I am used to barely surviving these fights or dying.

Maybe it is a ship/skill level thing, but I went through a period where storms were common, damaging, and very dangerous where tossing cargo and crew overboard was common.

I have yet to see the Dilligente tartane, but overall there is a lot of variety among the ships seen at sea.

That combat thing sounds weird; if you check the changelog, I cannot remember anything being in there that influences combat at all. :shock

This reminds me, I'm sure I've seen some ships' spanker sails acting up with this update. They should be swinging out to one side with the wind coming from astern, but instead they act more like they used to before we fixed their behaviour. I have checked several ships and their spankers are set up correctly, just as in Beta 2.1.
Possibly related to the sail movement angle being adjusted?

I have noticed the sail adjustment which makes the lateens behave much much better. I have not sailed a ship with a spanker with this version, but would expect them to swing less than before. Other than that they should be the same.

GRRR. The weather. It is always raining verging on storms. I am now going to the world map to avoid the bad weather. Sunny blue skies are exceedingly rare.

WHY do so many things keep changing WITHOUT us touching them???

Because after nine years of modding, the game is still a mystery to us...? o_O

Just another example of what can happen: you speak to for instance a governor of say West Indies who condescendingly talks about a fiendly vessel from the Bobbing Reef Realms, you actually heave anchor, go out finding that paddling fishfodder, sink, board, capture and swap that a bit-better-than-your-boat to then return boastful and glad to collect some reward. So far so exciting. I should mention that we got a letter of mark as well what boosts the standings considerably, but not so much what you will loose when giving it back. So now, enjoying your sojourn immensely, thinking here and hoisting the appropriate colours there all along, get a few things done -maybe's being certain that one would be ripe trying a career as a Swashbuckler not the very most clever of ideas- swagger onto your dreamship, the Bermuda Sloop, and before a single breeze can play with all that straw and hats the fort smashes every superstructure. Well done and lots of fun.

What's more is not so much the downpour or pea soup all over the map, you get spoken to, not to say hassled by almost every native, tourist and street vendor, even if they haven't nothing to show. Listen well, the officers nowadays prove so extraordinarily well-taught, they cannot dress properly without being commented on at all sorts of provincial gossip. Make you sure not to forget putting on garment when you roll out of the hammock. If it wasn't for some fancy feelings at the harbours i'd hark to the winds playing jocosely with the streamers. Here's yet a nifty trick if one wanted to perceive what they're on about: throw that cheap telescope anywhere so complete the stats from other riggings and stuff get fully on the sensors.

What you advise, try a more normal life as an adventurous apprentice seafarer? you would perhaps receive points for sailing and herewith sampling wisdom and such? gonna build a shipyard near that favorite mooring, hide a fleet there what can practice fortress fighting while getting all sorts of improvements then. Okay, that's the plan. First though equip those lousy crew and officers with readings, flot kitsch and jetsam plunder. Now the logbook

As I see it, it is more like after 9 years of people showing and thrashing around for a while then leaving, the code has been completely garbled and barely functional. It is only a matter of time before every install crashnburns.

The tobacco came with WoodesRogers storline. It has healing effects like
potions or liquor but a chewing sound when consumed. Try the sewing kit too!;)

About multi fists I don't know.

But that tobacco shouldn't be showing up randomly outside your storyline, should it?

As for the first, do you know WHERE you are looting them from? There is quite some code in place to prevent such weirdness.

I have been getting the fists from random chests. I remember that I got one in the chest behind the gunsmith's shop on Grenada.

I tried that chawin tabaccy and did not hear any chawin sound. PHHHHHTT!! Where is a spitoon when ye needs one? I have not seen the sewing kit yet.

She's coming apart Capn! Methinks this game and possibly install will not last much longer. I found this shack at the end of the pier when leaving Port Royale. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gpalg0tpyyfcivy/QtnqOLjO2S/POTC screenies/Port Royale pier.jpg

Tobacco and 3 other "potions" = skiprand so they shouldn´t show up as a randitems.
The shack is probably hut3, a InitbuildingItemHRH. Those should certainly not show up as randitems.
They do not have skiprand, but that is also the case for InitBLDexterior items.

The only thing new today is that when one goes to Sao Jorge and gets the 6th promotion to Capitao-de-Mar-e-Guerra when one tries to leave the island the game locks up because the name is still too long. One still needs to skip that promotion and only go there for the next promotion to Comodoro.

Any thoughts on what name to put in that is shorter?

Fists in boxes? I thought they were set to always be invisible even if they DID show up in boxes!

Maybe it's something wrong with your initItems file Hylie,
as fists, tobacco and hut3 behave strange?

I have also a question before when I asked for a job by the governor i got Ship hunting off "Island" I still get that but before i got Indiamans and that kinda ships but now I need to sink only tier 7 ships like schooners. I allways did it for the good bounty's but now i only get 2000-3000 for a ship. That ain't that nice

Jack Rackham: You might have found the problem. I recently installed the Open Sea mod to this beta 2.2 install and one of the things it changes is inititems.c.
Could you look at it? I just did in Winmerge and it looks like all he changed were some map settings, but there are some differences with JRH14 next to them.

It has been a long time since I went ship hunting for a Governor. The ships used to get bigger every time. It is not like that now?

Nope I'm 2e Luitenant and still only get ships worth 2000-3000 Highest I got was 5500. But before I got sometimes an Indiaman to sink that was worth 35000. Btw i'm playing on a custom quest trying to make one. But I just don't seem to get good ships to shoot anymore I have two Frigates T5 so that shouldn't be a problem.
