There are several character models in my modpack that still lack proper interface pictures. I was hoping someone could tell me how to make proper-looking interface pictures to add to them, because I find it really annoying when characters don't have interface pictures. Best way I find to do it, in the game, is to do this:<ul><li> Get yourself an officer and make them put on the right "skin"</li><li> Find a nice location for a photo session</li><li> Make the model relax and do a few warm-up shots, then... Er, all right, wrong kind of modelling <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /></li><li> Use F8 to take screenshots</li><li> Dig them shots up from your PotC folder (saved in .tga format)</li><li> Edit selected pictures with you favourite graphics program</li></ul>I prefer this to using Cinema 4D, as I can capture a nice pose and in "sunlight" as well. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

So for the 256 portraits, I can just take a screenshot. But how do I make the smaller portraits? They have a blue kind of backdrop. How to get the character's face on that backdrop?
 
Oh, I do the same with those. I doubt mine got a blue background... I tend to fiddle with portraits until I am happy with them (as I think shows in Ronald's 256 portrait, eh? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />), using Paint Shop Pro and layers and all... Cutting out the picture and painting/filling a background to match the style of the character...

Well... I've made a few portraits. They're not exactly the most brilliant ones ever made, but they'll have to do until somebody does it better. They'll be included in the next modpack release.

BTW: Does anyone know how to make character portraits with a blue backdrop? I mean: How to get the character in front of the blue backdrop? Should you make a screenshot in the GM viewer and paste that on top? Or should you erase the background of a PotC screenshot. I don't know how to erase a background. I can only do that manually which takes way too long. And how to make the background fuzzy-like like with the other character portraits? And how to add a shadow behind the character like some other character portraits have?
Ah... This is all way too complicated. I reckon I'll leave the portraits as-is. At least there now <i>are</i> portraits, even when they're not exactly works of art... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
Pieter, I can send you a blue background in correct sizes... Can you make pictures in layers? What image editing software are you using?
 
I'm usually just using MS Paint. For some more complicated things I use Paint Shop Pro 7, but I can't even do the most simple of things with that; just a few options I know how to use. Haven't got the slightest idea how layers work. I'm rather bad at anything related to image-editing...
 
What pix do you need, I'll do them if there are not too many. I'm not experienced with PSP, just Photoshop, so I can't really tell you how to do these if I send you the frame and background. Only sometimes can a "clean" background help showing the picture better. And MS Paint is simple but also lacking in abilities. Been teaching my hubby how to use PSP instead, heheh! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> It seems a bit much at first, but once you get the hang of it it will be much nicer to work with. It can be quite rewarding.

If you are up to it, try searching the net for <b>PSP 7 tutorial</b>s, there are many nice ones out there.

I made new character pictures for the following models:
Corsair4, Corsair5, hub_spa2, hub_spa3, hub_spa4, huber_por2, huber_spa5, Nobleman2, Pirat13, Monkey, Mummy, Native, Skel1, Skel2, Skel3, Skel4. They're all in the current modpack release. If you could make some better ones with blue background where needed, that would be great Catalina. It's 16 models, so 48 pictures in total... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I haven't been at a computer for almost a week attending a family reunion. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

The only problem I see with some of them is that there is little room on the right side for Officer/Captain icon.

Anyway, if there is anything specific you really need, just toss the files my way and I'll get to it!
 
I noticed some of the captions for the interface pics on your page have changed.

Diller should be credited to Cat, and Towngirl6 is listed 3 times, twice as the wrong character.
 
Ah. Thanks for telling me, Petros. I had to remake the page some time ago, because something went wrong, so apparently I made some mistakes.
