Annoucing Capo's Italian Soldier Project.
This origionally started as a secret project between Me and Diomed, but I thought that some other people here might like it so I'll post it.
The project is basically adding and Italian Ambassador to Falise de Fleur, along with Italian soldier skins and possibly italian ships sailing around. I wanted to add it because, well, I'm 37.5% Italian (that's the largest %age I have, tied with `German-Austrian`, which makes it only 18.75% german and 18.75% Austrian, so there ya go!) and Diomed thought the same so we teamed up. I just finished the Beta Italian soldier skin, and once I figure it out I'll post a screeny. It's a WIP, but coming along slowley (now that I got the first Italian Soldier skin done, I can get the other ones, and then work on an officer skin). However, I need coder's to help me get the Italians into the game as an Italian Ambassador in the Governor's Palace at Falise de Fleur (so a half Italain/ half French army occupying the island, as allies of course) and to get them their own ships sailing around. Thanks to anyone who can/has helped.

caporegime your mod is a great idea - i hadn't thought of this way of adding new `semi-nations` (by adding an ambassador i mean) - it's quite cool. i have experience of adding new nations, new flags, new symbols, etc, so if you want me to do that or help you do it, i will.

there's only one thing i'd say. italy didn't actually exist in 1690 (which is when build 11 has the game begin (the original used to begin in 1630)) - instead there was a collection of disunited kingdoms, duchies and `city-states`, some of which were ruled by the king of castile (central spain) at the time. it's completely your choice, of course, but it might make more sense to go for one of the regions or cities of italy rather than the whole of italy (whereabouts in italy do you come from?). then we can look up the historical flags for that region etc etc. plus if you choose milan or a region/city from southern italy, it might make more sense to have the embassy on isla muelle, though if you choose florence or a city from the piemonte/liguria region, it would make more sense for the embassy to be on falaise de fleur. (if you choose rome or the vatican or a city from lazio/le marche then i honestly don't know which <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> )
 
IMO the best option should be Piamonte, Venice or Napoli.

Btw Kieron, Napoli and Sardinia were ruled by the king of Spain, not Castile, Castile as a kingdom didn't exist since Carlos I. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Ok, I really need your help then. Let me finish the textures (shouldn't take too long now that the Beta's done,) then we'll go from there.
My family comes from `Centeral-Western` Sicily, but I was going to add the Kingdom of Venice (well, actually call it Italy, because the mod is more based off of a Napoleonic Time period, but Venice will do). ALso, the soldiers are in a type of Napoleonic Uniform, so they don't really fit 1690, either, but oh well. I always thought the game fit more of a 1750 time period.
Also, I thought Falise de Fleur would be a good choice, because
A: The Italians were often ALiied with the Frenchies, when not beating them in wars (the french are teh only country to lose to the Italians, TWICE)
B: There is alot to do of Falise de Fleur, so I thought maybe that would make it more of an incentive to come there (I have no clue why haveing alot to do has anything to do with this)

Well, I'm off to work on the skins.

It was the kingdom of Italy at the time, it was diveded into Florence Naples, and Venice. Spain occupied parts of northern Italy, and later on in the early 1800s they were replaced by the Austrians. But we (the Italians) kicked their teutonic asses back across the alps.
 
Hi, can someone help me get a more clothing realistic texture than I have? Mine has the colours right, but it lacks a more clothing like texture, can someone tell me how to acheave this?

Capo, if you're using Photoshop, you can get free textures at this site:

venice was a duchy, not a kingdom ('duke' in venetian was <i>doge</i> - the doges of venice, no?). and italy didn't become a single kingdom until the mid 1800s. and france was italy's greatest enemy during the reunification - because of france the reunification nearly didn't come about. and both savoy and piemonte came under napoleonic rule at some point, i think...

if you're going to add an embassy from <i>il veneto</i> then i agree, it should be on french territory, not spanish. i'm not sure that the entire island should be controlled jointly by venetian and french troops, but there should certainly be some venetian troops and ships around.

ooh and you could maybe include the doge's personal bodyguards, the <i>schiavi</i> (they came from dalmatia and they used the <i>schiavona</i>, if you were wondering where that sword came from... i only happen to know that because my brother has one lol <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> ).

I ALMOST found a way, almost, but then I have to replace all these small little line things and I can't do it.

BTW, Kieron, I don't know what the uniforms of the Schiavi are,
the dude's I'm making are based off of the First Line Regiment.
(www.napitalia.org.uk enter the site, click on units and bam your there) Now it can't be 100% accurate because this unit was from the Napoleonic Wars, but I can get the coat pretty much.
I am not the best skinner out there, a novice at best, but I'll keep trying.

i've done a little research on venetian historical flags... this is like the one time that fotw.net wasn't too helpful! it seems that the one in use at the time was very variable, but basically was just a red flag with the lion of st mark in the centre, like so:
