Need Help can't get POTC stock game as well as build 14 beta 3.4 to work

Fellow POTC players,

I've tried to install this game on my new laptop with windows 8.1 64-bit and it doesn't work (stock game as well as build 14 beta 3.4)

I've tried everything from running it in all possible compatibility modes to updating my video card driver.
I can open the game without a problem, but when I want to start a new game after the "start new game loading screen" finishes the game crashes and I get a windows error saying "engine stopped working".

I've installed the game on a separate map on my C:/ drive (so not on the default "program files" location).

Any help would be much appreciated as I would love to play this great game again on my new laptop.

Sounds like the Intel on board graphics card problem.
