Canonically accurate Wicked Wench/designs I've made.

Hello all, for years now the white and brown Wicked Wench we know has been THE Wicked Wench in this fandom years. One thing that has always bugged me however, is that there doesn't seem to be a novel (The Price of Freedom) accurate Wicked Wench ANYWHERE, until now.

I've decided to take it upon myself to create a canonically accurate Wicked Wench using as much details from the book as possible, and using creative liberties to fill in the gap. Don't get me wrong, the current Wicked Wench design is a wonderful recolour. I just thought it would be nice to have a canonically accurate version, and perhaps one day, it could be used in the Sea Dogs games?

Designs will be posted in the thread down below.

Reference information I've gathered from the book:

Design #2
Went for a darker shade of paint across the gunport, taking inspiration from the Amsterdam, another East Indiamen

Now onto the sails. While I may have made my WW designs onto a Black Pearl side view (credits to owners), I must stress the sail plans AREN'T ACCURATE EITHER. I believe that the Wench's sail plan would follow that of Curse of the Black Pearl, in good shape and without the tears and holes of course. Here is an example. (Some sails are still torn, that's just the design of the Pearl's sails in game.)

The triangular sail on the back of the mizzen mast doesn't really....look right in patched form. It wasn't present on the Pearl in the ending of CotBP either (I think). I was thinking maybe have it replaced with a spanker sail?

Interesting designs! :cheers If you want to make a game model of the Wicked Wench as described in the book, the easiest way would probably be to make a copy of the existing model and then retexture it.

The lateen sail is correct. Since the film franchise is Disney's, the canonical reference would be their site:
Black Pearl
That has several pictures from the films showing the lateen sail.

Would love to retexture and edit the gunports of the existing model, but I don't have any modelling knowledge :/ Was hoping someone would be interested in doing it haha

Actually, according to the wiki, the Wicked Wench w the lateen sail in the 5th movie is NOT THE SAME Wicked Wench that became the Black Pearl.

Whereas, according to that "Black Pearl" wiki entry I showed:
In the past, the ship was originally named the Wicked Wench, under the command of Jack Sparrow. However, Jack's employer, Cutler Beckett, later ordered the Wench to be set aflame and sunk. As part of a deal with Davy Jones, the ship was raised from the depths, and Jack was given thirteen years as captain, in exchange for 100 years of service aboard the Flying Dutchman. With the Wench’s new charred look, Jack rechristened her the Black Pearl. Now an infamous pirate vessel, the Black Pearl would embark on many adventures on the high seas.
That is also what happens in the game's "Hoist the Colours" storyline.

There's also an entry for the Wench:
Wicked Wench
In the tie-in books made for the original film series, it would be explained that the Black Pearl's original name was in-fact the Wicked Wench from when it was used as a slaving-ship by the East India Trading Company. Captain Jack Sparrow held a great love for the ship but refused to use it to transport slaves and released 1000 men and woman who were being transported on it. This lead to Cutler Beckett having the Wench burned down and having Sparrow branded as a pirate.
In Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the name of the ship where Jack Sparrow originally defeats Captain Salazar, acquires his compass, and is named Captain is called the Wicked Wench. This does seem to retcon the prior tie-in work however the canonicity of this film can be disputed however due to it containing information which contradicts prior PotC films (E.G., Jack getting his compass from a pirate in Dead Men Tell No Tales but explicitly having gotten it from Tia Dalma in the 2nd film or Jack having been a pirate youth in the 5th film but having explicitly worked for the East India Trading Company in the 2nd and 3rd).
The game's storyline, having been made before Dead Men Tell No Tales, follows all the previously established material - Sparrow works for the EITC, is hired to transport an unknown cargo and gets upset when he finds that the cargo is slaves, helps Tia Dalma to release slaves and gets the compass from her. Beckett declares Sparrow a pirate and burns the Wicked Wench, then Davy Jones rescues Sparrow and resurrects the ship as the Black Pearl.

Meanwhile, back to your model, and unless you want to create a whole new Wicked Wench model from scratch, you'll be retexturing a copy of "WickedWench", which is itself a retextured copy of "BlackPearl".

Yeah this WW design I made was meant to follow The Price of Freedom's version which I understand plays a major role in Hoist the Colours, and not the POTC5 version as it is a different ship (If that was what you meant). Was just wondering if anyone out there will be willing to create a new model by modifying the existing Black Pearl one

If you're not willing to make a retextured version of the existing "WickedWench" then I don't know who is. ;)

You'll need:
https://piratesahoy.bowengames.com/Cloud/Tools/Modeling+Texturing/GM Viewer.zip: GM Viewer can show you the individual parts of a ship, which you'll find in "RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships\WickedWench". It also shows you which texture files the model uses. To edit those, you need:
https://piratesahoy.bowengames.com/Cloud/Tools/Modeling+Texturing/TX Convertor.zip: TX Convertor converts the .tga.tx files used by the game to standard .tga files which you can edit with Photoshop, GIMP or other picture editing software. Then use TX Convertor to convert your changed files back to .tga.tx format.
https://piratesahoy.bowengames.com/Cloud/Tools/Modeling+Texturing/hex-editor.7z: Hex Editor allows you to edit the model file directly. Be careful here - changing the wrong byte will ruin the model! However, since your model will be a renamed copy of "WickedWench.gm", in a separate folder with a matching name, if it does go horribly wrong then you can always copy the original again. What you're looking for is the texture file names, which you'll change to your new textures. The new texture files must have names exactly the same length as the originals otherwise the file names won't fit into "NewWickedWench.gm", or whatever you choose to call your new version.

For one thing, where did you get that file? "WickedWench02" ought to look like this:
WickedWench02.jpg

If you changed the white stripe to dark yellow then you've already figured out how to do what you need. That does seem to be based on an older version of the file, though, because the current version has a nameplate similar to the one seen on the stern in "Dead Men Tell No Tales".
