build mod 13 impossible fights

L0M3N

Sailor
Hey guys. I have a big problem. I made a new game with Build 13 Final and am at level 3.
My problem is I cannot win any sword fights. On Oxbay every group of enemies I have encountered kills me
in close to 5 seconds. All i can do is hold down block or they own me if I even try to swing my sword. I am on the easiest difficulty so
I'm not sure what to do. Please help.

Do the tutorial at the start of the game, it makes you teach yourself the basics to fighting...

Pretty much its block, hit, block until they stumble and then you can double hit them

well then i must suck really bad lol.
I've beat the original game before but I don't remember it
being so hard. all the enemies do like 30 damage to me in 1 hit.
while it takes me like 5 to 7 to kill one of them.
when i board a ship my crew is dead in like 3 seconds
and then around 6 pirates rush me. Its kinda hard to survive.
As in I haven't yet. Even the two French soldiers guarding Oxbay
killed me the second I dropped my block to swing at them.

Level 3 is a bit low to do any sort of adventuring. I recommend sailing around a bit, earn a small fortune, get a better blade, partake in the glory of a few skirmishes...

DO do some training with Malcolm in the tutorial! Build up your experience, gain some points and assign them to fencing.
That should help. Buy yourself a better blade as soon as you can and use the weapons locker in your captain's cabin
to stock your boarders with better blades as well. That should help.

thanks guys, I've been able to win some fights now.
but now i have another problem.
I moored in the Spanish port, but when I try to leave they turn hostile and sink my ship before I can move.
It's very annoying. What do I do?

Level 3 and you are already boarding ships? :shock

I rarely leaves the Malcolm tutorials before i get to Level 3 and i dont get into sword fights before Level 5-8, its almost suicide (as you just discovered by now).

The world isnt fair enough to let a weak guy win anything. You only have to improve your skills and earn money to survive phisical and economically, as Mr. Boelen said.

Good luck, mate! :drunk

you can win fights and boardings at that level, actually. but you need to be an experienced player in general, in other words, know really well what you're doing. pirate hunting missions usually give you a pretty fair target to practice on.

a fun way to start is by not spending any points to fight malcolm until level 4, then do pirate hunting. after a few hours of pirates youll have the 200k to buy a class 5 ship, and theyll start sending you after 4s - by then youre level 10 but thats when it gets hard - one problem i have been having which is why i came to forums is that using build 13 full install - build 14 alpha 10 with fix has many bugs on my pc - no fast travel, b roken doors, cant navigate towns, etc - anyways, using build 13 full, some times i spawn during boarding on the first stage in the water. my crew fights above me but i cant move at all, 500 ft below etc. this is a rheeal problem if they cant clear it and win, but if they lose or there is a 1st level rout i need to re load - so prettty anoying bug if there is a fix ...

Build 14 Alpha 10 with the fix has been said to be more stable than Build 13 Full :shrug

Did you follow the correct installation instructions? Cause I dont have any of those problems you described

no fast travel

FT will be disabled until you discover the location yourself. As for lack of autonavigation, its the same story for ports on islands. Take a fast ship out and do some scouting, and you can then navigate your ship of the line to that location easily. Oh yes, you can berth the warship in port while you go on a recon mission.

Or to save you time, go hunt around street vendors for maps of other islands. Then do what real captains did - dead reckoning till you reach your destination.

Alpha 10.1 is pretty much recommended, although do note we are progressively taking out the "arcade" elements, or at least making the game-assist devices part of an item you need to work for.

Other than the age of this game engine causing issues with stability (so save before every area transition and as reasonably often as you can at sea), there are few real bugs around. As aforesaid, some are simply issues by design.

This is only the case if you are using realistic settings (which is off by default)

Again we arent taking them out of the game we are having two different game types: Arcade and Realistic

Get them from the governors; just make sure to reject the proposal if they ask you to sink a powerful ship (the huge reward is a hint). Lugger vs battleship is not fun.

I prefer just sailing around and helping out merchants under pirate attack. You gain much more experience and loot (sometimes ships surrender) that way.

ah okay thanks.
one more thing....
Do you think i should play age of pirates: Caribbean tales or is Build 13 final pretty much the same gameplay?

Build 13 kicks the crap out of vanalla Age of Pirates and Build 14 Alpha 10 kicks the crap out of Build 13 ;)

The graphics are slightly better in Age of Pirates but Build has WAY WAY WAY more content :yes

Yep; if you ARE going to play another game, you're better served with Age of Pirates II: City of Abandoned Ships.
But as far as we're concerned, PotC Build 14 is still better anyway, despite more dated graphics. ;)

another thing you could do though it is more for testing then for actually pure gameplay is to change your starting level in the buildsetting.h but read it carefully and don't mess with anything they say not to mess with unless u know what you are doing :keith
