BUILD 14 BETA 3.1 Polish translation

Didn't Baste and Stryk see my messages? Do alerts have some time before they "expire" and aren't visible?
For now, translation is going a bit slower than I expected but stay tuned.

If someone wants to help, please post in this thread or PM me. I really need helpers. My lateness rate equals nearly 6 months now. I won't make it 'til August 2014 alone (I planned so).:(

Does someone know where the files from RESOURCE/INI/TEXTS/ENGLISH/HELPSECTIONS are used?
I hadn't found them anywhere in the game.:shrug

I tried the files that enabled language switching, and it gave me some information about how the Polish fonts are being used.

This is from the dialogue file for Malcolm Hatcher:
Code:
Wczoraj poprosi³e› mnie abym przypomnia³ Ci o sprawach które powinni›my dzisiaj za³atwiå.
This is text used for the "Ship" screen and the "Character" screen, from "common.ini":
Code:
; Ships parameters
string = Hull,"Kad³ub"
string = Sails,"¯agle"
string = Crew,"Za³oga"
string = Cannons,"Dzia³a"
string = Speed,"Szybko݌"
string = Maneuver,"Zwrotno݌"
string = Max.Caliber,"Maks. kaliber dzia³"
string = Max.Crew,"Maks. ilo›å za³ogi"
string = Min.Crew,"Min. ilo›å za³ogi"
string = Capacity,"£adowno›å"
string = Rig,"Takielunek"

; Character skills
string = Leadership,"Dowodzenie"
string = Fencing,"Walka"
string = Sailing,"¯eglarstwo"
string = Accuracy,"Celno݌"
string = Grappling,"Abordaž"
string = Repair,"Naprawa"
string = Defence,"Obrona"
string = Commerce,"Handel"
string = Sneak,"Szcz×›cie"
string = Free Skill Points,"Zdolno›ci"
string = Abilities,"Umiej×tno›ci"
As we can see, special characters are used, such as "³" and "¯".

The language support seems to make it possible to have the game in Polish, but I can't find any explanation on which characters to type to make the fonts appear properly in the game. The fonts_euro file isn't very clear, unfortunately.
If KK would have time, it would be useful if he could explain how to properly work with the fonts and all files involved.

They are related to an unfinished and disabled help section, and thus aren't used. More information is in this thread: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/the-loading-screen-tips.19572/

Thank you very much for such good news! But from your post I don't exactly understand what is your problem. If you don't know which characters are which, I will post these here:
³ = ł
¯ = Ż
› = ś
å = ć
£ = Ł
ž = ż
× = ę
Unfortunately, these aren't all.

Maybe you can search "alt codes for Polish letters" if you know what alt codes are. And great thanks for your help once again.:onya

I'll try to contact him about that.

P.S. I found one active helper at Play in Polish forum.

Yeah, I thought about that afterwards, that I could try to use those characters and see what happens. It seems to make some progress:
Polish.jpg
The font files and textures seem to work, so it seems all that is needed is to know which characters correspond to which letters. :)

Thank you VERY much mate! I'll send you file with all Polish letters (attachment), you can post them here as "code", then I will post here full list of proper letters (like above) and it'll be done.:bowThanks again, awesome work.

Thanks to the help we got from KK in PMs, I have found the characters to use for Polish letters. Some of them cannot be typed here so see the attached file. This is the result I get:
Polish 2.jpg
This should make translation easier. :)

This may sound really weird and offtopic, but I found out that GoldBug storyline isn't logically translatable. What should I do with this?o_O And another problem: what's this code piece about (from common.ini)?

I found out that GoldNug storyline isn't logically translatable
You mean the english cipher in GOLDBUG?
I read this short story many years ago in a swedish translation and the cipher was in english
and that worked for the reader I think.

You put the character corresponding to the letter you want in the file you want the text. For example, to get that description text I put this in "standard.c" in PROGRAM\Storyline:
Code:
case "Polish":
            sl.(sn).title = "Nowe horyzonty";
            sl.(sn).description = "¥¹þå½×£³ýðÓ󍛏Ÿ¯ž";
Again, some characters cannot be shown.

I did this on Beta 2.5, but "Menu font.tga.tx" and "fonts_euro.ini" from Beta 2.3 are needed, since the headline font from the English-language European version that was added in Beta 2.5 doesn't have Polish letters. They go in RESOURCE\Textures\FONTS and RESOURCE\INI.

Are you using the translation files Pieter uploaded? If so, set the game to Polish and it should work, but as you know, you'll need to update the files. If not using them, create new "POLISH" folders and put everything from the "ENGLISH" folders in there in order to have updated files, and then change this code in "utils.c" in the PROGRAM folder:
Code:
string GetInterfaceLanguageName(int lnginterface)
{
    string slname = "English";
    switch (lnginterface) {
        case ILANG_RUS:
            slname = "Russian";
        break;
        case ILANG_FRA:
            slname = "French";
        break;
        case ILANG_GER:
            slname = "German";
        break;
        case ILANG_SPA:
            slname = "Spanish";
        break;
        case ILANG_POL:
            slname = "Polish";
        break;
    }
    return slname;
}
To this:
Code:
string GetInterfaceLanguageName(int lnginterface)
{
    string slname = "Polish";
    switch (lnginterface) {
        case ILANG_RUS:
            slname = "Russian";
        break;
        case ILANG_FRA:
            slname = "French";
        break;
        case ILANG_GER:
            slname = "German";
        break;
        case ILANG_SPA:
            slname = "Spanish";
        break;
        case ILANG_POL:
            slname = "Polish";
        break;
    }
    return slname;
}
Then translate the updated files, as you might already have done. I'm not sure if this is a good way to change the language, but I think it should work.

The characters might not look the same for you, so here is a screenshot of how it looks for me:
Characters.jpg

If they don't look the same, check the code KK showed us in the utils.c file.

I don't know about the storyline and the code piece, unfortunately.

Does this mean that whenever I type Polish letter, I gotta write some "bushes" instead of it? It'll take ages then.
And no, I'm not using Pieter's files, just POLISH folders. Thank you for this all, but now I got really confused.

Goldbug is not finished yet anyway, so I'd recommend not touching it.
Also, it is based on very complicated English literature so that's another reason to skip on it.

All those nation things are for different grammatical use in the Russian language.
I have no clue what the difference is though.

Then it may be same as Polish (both are slavic languages), does someone have Russian version of this file?

It must be in that Multilanguage Archive I uploaded a while ago, right?
