build 14 a9 startup problem

hey guys,

recently i decided to start playing POTC again and was glad to find there was a new alpha out, (last time i was here i think alpha 7 was the latest) so i thought i would try a9 out.

i started by installing 13 full and i did this without any problem whatsoever.

then after a lengthy download of alpha 9 i extracted it onto the usual POTC folder.

however when i try to load the engine it says 'abnormal program termination'

i know there are threads on this but they usually get solved, for example the user downloaded in the wrong place. but i know for sure i have followed the instructions and downloaded in the right place.

Did you just download Build 14 Alpha 9 after Build 13?

If this is the case you <i>need</i> to delete the PROGRAM folder also RESOURCE/INI and RESOURCE/MODELS/LOCATIONS/Decks folders

it seems i didnt remove the folders such as program before installing, but it doesnt say i have to do that in the instructions i read.

but the bottom line is im now up and running so thank you guys for the help <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

another question, i want to install the curse of the black pearl music pack, do i simply extract it over my game as per usual? im only asking because i dont want to make a mistake and re install lol
 
The instructions you read are probably the ones that tell you to install Build 14 Alpha 9.5 as well.
In that case, indeed you don't need to remove the folders. Just follow the instructions I just posted and you'll be good.
For the music pack, download the one that's posted on that same page under "Build 14 Additional Files".

I have the same problem like captainjacksparrow.
I already tryed to fix this problem with deleting the files which Captain Maggee posted.
Now I extract the new files to the game directory but there is the same problem like before :(
I played a long time with the Build Mod 13 full, then i downloaded the build mod 14 a9 patch 3 and now the problem :/

EDIT: Ok, i try it with the 9.5 patch 3 and the engine starts now, but if the engine finished his work, the game crashes. :(
 
Did you follow the installation instructions?

You NEED:
- Build 13 Final
- Build 14 Alpha 9
- Build 14 Alpha 9.5
- Build 14 Alpha 9.5 Patch 3

For Alpha 9.5 Patch 3 to work ;)
