Hi,
First, I'm a new guy and am not sure where to post this, so sorry in advance if I did it wrong.
Second, I've read a lot of posts and couldn't find an answer to this problem, but clearly I might have missed something, so sorry in advance again.
My problem is that POTC crashes (Engine.exe has encountered an error and needs to close,...) when the game is in 3D sailing mode and I select the icon to anchor and enter a port. I can reload the game at the previous port and then I can successfully arrive at the next port, but if I travel to a third port the game almost invariably crashes again (occurs about 80 to 90% of the time). Less frequently the game crashes at other times goining in or out of 3D sailing mode. Currently I get around this by saving quite often, but the game would be more enjoyable if I didn't have to reload the game every30 minutes. Here is what I know about the problem:
1) I just got POTC as a gift, installed it, then installed Build 13 final - as far as I could tell everything went fine
2) I changed Mapspeed from 0.6 to 1.0
3) I never carry > 90% of cargo capacity, often much less
4) I only carry 0 or 1 passengers
5) Sound card - Creative SB X-Fi (with the latest drivers). I have tried running with sound on, in 'safe' mode, and with sound off - no noticeable effect on the problem
6) Graphics card - GeForce 7900 (with the latest drivers) running 1024x768 resolution (I have not tried a lower resolution, maybe I'll do that next, but it would be a shame if that is the problem)
7) CPU - AMD Athlon 3500+ 2.2 Ghz with 1GB RAM
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Many GB of disk storage are left
9) I read about generating some sort of log file, but the link to the explanation of how to do that did not seem to work so I haven't done it
The game appears to have great potential, especially after all the work you guys have done, but I may have to give up on it because the continual crashes really suck the life out of it. I would appreaciate any suggestions on how to fix the problem.
Thanks.
