Build 13 final release?

Hello all,

IncredibleHat and Hook have recently been doing some very good bugfixing work on the Pre Build 13 pack, making it quite playable indeed. It is said that all quests can be finished and gamestopping bugs are hardly ever encountered anymore. This is why Hook suggested that we call his and IncredibleHat's latest update "Build 13". All bugfixes to "Build 13" would then be added to the <i>Post Build 13 Fixpack</i>, while all new content would be added to the <i>Pre Build 14 pack</i>. I reckon this is quite a good idea. We need to release a final Build 13 at some point, preferrably soon, and the game is now more playable than ever, so why not now?

There are still several things in the game that are not yet fixed. There are still things that could do with some improving for the final Build 13. Examples of these would be "cleaning up BuildSettings.h" and "changing the choose character model selection". However, these changes could be added to the <i>Post Build 13 fixpack</i>. And once these small things would be fixed, we could then call it <i>Build 13.1</i>, right?

So please give your views on this issue. If we agree that we should release a Build 13 final version now, I will try to upload the full download later this week.

Question: The Build 12.1 full download is a simple self-extracting .exe. Wouldn't it be great if we could make a better installation file for Build 13? Would anyone have any suggestions on how to do that?
 
<b>My personal suggestion:</b>
Wait until next weekend and see if we have any additional finishing fixes for Build 13 by then. Then I'll compile Build 13 over the weekend and release it next week.

These additional fixes include:
- Tutorials fixed (Pirate_KK is working on that)
- New islands finished (Pirate_KK is working on that)
- Pictures for new character model selection added (Maximus is working on that)
- BuildSettings.h cleaned up (nobody's working on that yet!)

If you know of anything that should also be fixed for the final Build 13, now is the time to say it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

If it is in Build 13, it should probably have its walk file any other work to make it a fully functioning boardable ship before Build 13 is finalized, IMHO. I must say though, that Build 13 is a work of art, Kudos to all those modders who have worked so hard to making PotC the masterpiece that it is. Special kudos to Pieter for his work as modcompiler, I know everyone here will miss him when he is on his voyage! I've got a game going at the moment that's updated as far as the Hook/TIH update of 28/8/06 and it's definitely the most playable the game has been for a long time. I'm about to download their latest update as well to see how that's going but from the lack of any negative feedback on the forum it sounds like it's all good. Based on this, I think that Build 13 is looking pretty good for release. There maybe still a few bugs here and there but, considering the complexity of the game now, I think they're relatively minor... nothing worse than what we got with the stock game...comparitively. I think that, as long as there are no more complex mods/code added and just simple mods (if that) or bug fixes then Build 13 is ready for release as you suggest next weekend.

I'll play test some more over the next couple of days if I've got the time and see if there's any salient problems that need to be fixed. Hopefully not. If there is then I hope we can get them cleared up quickly. I was thinking I'd like to adjust the pricing of the new axes (down a little) so will try and get something to you by next weekend.

If you have any new mods that are (almost) working properly, these can be added to the Post Build 13 pack and eventually into Build 13.1 if confirmed to be working properly. New mods will not be added to Build 13 at all.

I wonder what to do with the new town models, such as the AoP Guadeloupe, AoP Tortuga, Swindler's retextured Santo Domingo and (if released) Thomas the Terror's La Havana retexture. I think these should be added to the Post Build 13 pack and eventually Build 13.1.

This way Build 13 will be a playable modpack version. Build 13.1 will be a playable modpack version with all the latest working mods added in as well.

What about we do this? Can everyone agree with this?

The major CTDs are fixed. There is still the occasional crash, but we can't really seem to figure out why these occur.

That is great! Keep in mind that yesterday's release is more like a Post Build 13 pack and not the final Build 13 by any means. The final Build 13 will contain less features than yesterday's release.

I think it should fix it, yes. The Build 13 Beta version will basically be the same as IncredibleHat's latest version with some additional fixes added.
