Build 13 bugs

Thanks a lot for tackling the land enemies. One of these days I should have the darned old Buildingset finished, and then I may be able to help if necessary (as I am responsible for many of those pesky thieves and muggers)

BTW, I noticed a "float ResetHP(ref chr)" function on top of LAI_createOfficer.c . It seems to be designed to calculate HP based on level and difficulty. Maybe that code can be used.

OTH you seem to have have the neccessary code already <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Ah, thanks CCC. I knew such a function existed, and had used it before, but I didn't see it when I was messing with the code. I'll have another look at it.

About raining inside tutorial cabin:

Thought I had fixed that by adding:

SetNextWeather("Blue Sky"); // JRH
under case "Tut_start": in both_reactions
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

maybe you have, but the tutorial cabin is now different and if you enter your ship's cabin from sea or land it does rain inside.

If anyone remembers I had a bug where the game would crash every time I entered Cuba or the area around it.

I fixed it by taking the game and saving it...until I learned a thing or two million ...thanks to all you fine fellows.

I pasted the save back into the file and then loaded up the game and F-11 'd it....it took a while to sink in but I figured if F-11 reinitialized all thee ini files it should also do the locations ...since I remembered reading it saying " english name for ( location ) I figured it was loading the files...and just might be loading whatever was missing that was making the game crash.

I landed in santiago , fast travelled to the store ( to avoid map sellers ...I have one in my quest log..I'm gonna go find it ! ) and saved the game NO PROBLEMO 'Seneor .... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I told you it was driving me insane ..not being able to fix it.

see I am insane ...and now I'm not ..I am only slightly i'll. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

Don't argue ...

At least it is not raining in MY house .

any ship would rain on the inside if you get swamped by a wave or leave the cannon hatches open while making a 180 degree turn in a storm! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> seriously, my schooner flooded once doing that! looking quite frightening in first person. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> half the deck was filled with water. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> the ship apparantly went below the waterline, causing the flooding.

I think that happens quite often. Anytime I run into big waves in a smaller ship, I end up with water sloshing in the ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

you wont believe what i've just been through. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> tried sailing in 3D mode from oxbay to falaise the fleur in a war tartane when i encountered a few enemy ships: a lineship, a frigate, a war schooner, and a galleon! man those things are big! in a rather bold action for my doing, i eventually decided to board that lineship, which was the closest big ship, and had to fight five soldiers at a time for half an hour! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> unfortunatly, after i had boarded it and was making ready to board the next, the game CTD'ed, so some more screen bashing for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> was rather funny trying to steer a pinnace without any officers or any skills that concern ships. was just like the scene whith will and jack aboard the dauntless before they captured the interceptor. only, i had to manage the ship on my own as it seemed, and without such a friendly option.

Yes, you did. I have not seen it raining in there since. But that does not apply to any other interior deck locations and possibly not to the Build 14 Alpha code for the tutorial cabins either.

I understand there are new situations. Maybe the same technique (forcing good weather when reloading to cabin) could be useful?

But this could be the cause of the bug where in a storm or fog, you could go to cabin, then back tol sea and it's all clear again. We'd have to remember the old weather and put it back again when you left the cabin...

Fix for those who had crashes in Santiago port is here:

<a href="http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/view.php?id=308" target="_blank">http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/view.php?id=308</a>

Are the defeat the fort crashes fixed yet ?

Tortuga...and St Martin ?

Is St Martins forts supposed to be invincible ? WHY if they are ?

Speaking of bugs and stuff, the lateest build features some odd things I don't like. I don't know if anyone has posted these before, but here it goes:

1) Officers (quest officers at least) only gain 2 hp per level.

2) The money/xp I get for ransoming/executeing enemy captains is too high. sometimes even 1000000 gold / 10 levels for a single captain.

3) Tavern hired officers are too strong, mostly 2X my level.

4) I can't complete treasure quests. The hiding places are not where they are supposed to be.

That's it for now.

Talking about the changes to enemy character hit point generation:

<!--quoteo(post=174722:date=Dec 6 2006, 04:16 AM:name=morgan terror)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(morgan terror @ Dec 6 2006, 04:16 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->
how hard is it for beginning players?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I started a new character at level 4. I figure I could get up to that level just by dueling Malcolm in the tutorial, and many people will be doing this. It's a reasonable low level test. I did not take the toughness perk.

I was facing enemies around level 2 or 3, with under 80 hit points, at difficulty 2. This seems about right. The only problems started coming in when I was facing 3 to 5 of these guys at once! I got a good sword in a dungeon crawl (those guys were a bit tougher too, I think), so by the time I had to face 5 enemies I was doing pretty well.

If you actually started at level 1 or 2, you'll be facing level 1 enemies with 40 hit points. The original code would have generated level 1 enemies with 40 hit points at easiest difficulty anyway, so it shouldn't be any different. The biggest difference between my code and the original is that the orignal would only give a few hit points per level to the enemy characters.

I want to test a bit more with my high level character to make sure I'm getting a good range of enemy levels. But it looks like the code will work for anyone who wants to use it.

I just invaded Tortuga again..with a new game .

It lets you capture the fort ...you get to blow it up and fight through the levels..then instead of booty and repairs...you get a black screen .

Ummm ..can someone fix this ? Or tell me where to look ?

Also the treasure on Boca Hubon no longer matches the directions in the screenies.....you seem to have added some rocks and trees since he took those shots..

The Tortuga bug is a real ball breaker..limiting the forts you can capture to maybe three or four...among all of them...makes no sense...I have not yet sacked Concieco or Redmond...no reason too since they hold my letters of Marque ...but I cant seem to attack any French or spanish ports outside of Guadeloupe ( sometimes ) Isle mulee ( occasionally ) and santiago and havana..so far all the time .

And yes capturing officers and getting a couple thousand for them..is a waste.

In fact capturing them is a waste unless you need officers....but afterwords? The ransome system is broken. They are in the hold you go to the island to ransome them ...THEN WHAT ?

Same dialog same amount of money . Who do you ransome them to anyway ? It makes no sense..." the your a noble fellow etc....gets you the same result as killing them ...whats the use of that ?

Back to killing spaniards ...be back after I find more bugs..or the same ones bite me .

What might be causing this ? I have not taken any quest outside recon Oxbay..and the one treasure quest..outside " go sink a pirate " stuff the gov gives you .

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><b>2) The money/xp I get for ransoming/executeing enemy captains is too high. sometimes even 1000000 gold / 10 levels for a single captain.
</b> <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b> ????????????????</b>

Are we playing the same game ???

The guys I find in taverns being high levels is a cool perk....makes up for all my guys short commings at low levels and allows me to actually fight my ship...think real sailing and a good navigator and think goot boatswain and decent bording and a really good carpenter to fix all the holes in my ship ....please DON'T change it. besides if you are lucky enough to capture a Dutch or spanish warship in the beginning of the game or even a Fench one...Who is going to be captain ? NOT your level four Dingy driver thats for certain...the level 24 guy I recruited in the tavern comes in handy for that alone even if all I want to do is bring the tub back to sell it .

If I want dweebs for mates I can use the ones I capture...they are all around my level and are just as dumb as my guy..early in the game..but still usefull if they come with stats higher than yours and skills in the right areas.

Umm, good point! I think SetNextWeather("Blue Sky"); also turns night into day.

NEW BUG ! ....No not me a different bug...

The fellow in Oxbay that stands with a broomstick in his butt ? one of the building set interface guys you left lying around to amuse and confound ? I am only guessing ...but this one if he ever gets to the part about the plantation slaves rising up...thats it the game freezes.

You cant exit out of the dialog screen...missing a command or something . so your stuck standing with text dialog...the gut with the green shirt...funny enough ..by the name of " forrest " .

I had a few crashes at Oxbay dock when I tried to change ship officers..on exit from the screen...but after I killed all my prisoners...and got about 800 gold each ..maybe ...it stopped doing it..I also killed the crew ...they let one jump overboard. Shame I couldnt loot them .

Well, if 3 to 5 enemies attack you SHOULD have problems. So it sounds like the balance is right there.
