since its clearly working for some im thinking bad Nocd crack perhaps ?

1,2 and 4 are legal, 3 is not. and i had managed to make number 3 without noting it.

Shrike, if you are modding without using ModHelper, you should use it if only to get an easy and comprehensive error report. You will find ModHelper in the PotC/tools directory if you've installed Build 11

It will also allow you to start the game wherever you wish - with a ship and weapons - no tutorial, just dropped into a location - handy if you are designing a quest. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />.
 
acturally i enabled the logging string in the INI file and backtraced it from there.

and ive modified the game in such a way that im starting with that silly little gunboat, boy its fun. even captured a Xebec so far, quite a battle...

acturally i captured a Xebec in that Gunboat, quite a nice exchange. but what i really want to exchange the Xebec with is a Brig,Corvette or Frigate...

i figure that along the story im gonna end up in a MOW at one point or another but thats all in due time...

kinda negative right now, i got blasted out of the water by a sizable french battlefleet... just because i ran off with one of their frigates (ok, i did it not a stonethrow from the french fort on whats that islands name ?)

with less than half crew, wind against me and three Lineships, two Battleships and a MOW in hot pursuit what can you do ?

pah i say ! just because i try to press my luck ever so slightly... (attacking a FRIGATE in a Xebec, close to a french fort. AND a french fleet) they get all pissy about it.

i mean come on ! if i where trying to run off with a Lineship i whould understand, but all that for a pesky frigate ?

but who am i kidding, that is the very same fleet i saw expending SIX broadsides on a poor pirate sloop. quite devastating to say the least.

Shrike, next time you are in a nassssty situation like that, you *can* outrun them - especially if they have to turn about to chase you. If the wind is not on your side, use it anyways - you, in your smaller ship, will be quicker and more maneuverable by far than the bigger ones - blast 'em in their sails to slow them down on the way by, look to your own (duck any broadsides by turning your ship to present a thin target) and just FLY... Try using "sail to" to get to the furthest point downwind and then go for it! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />
 
oi i tried to outrun them.

and i almost did acturally. (no cheaty sailto here !)

the problem was that heading downwind meant going between the fleet and the fort. not a thing i though i could survive so i tried to outrun them against the wind (by crossing over, thereby presenting my broadside to them) and it worked until i did a slight miscalculation and ended up too close to the coast.

so the only real choice was to set full sail and try to blast past them, thus i did. and failed. well, i did make it as far as next to the fort and then it killed me.
