I am in desperate need of help with the smugglers on all islands. I backed out of a deal and they threatened me. One thing led to another and I was forced to kill 'em all. Now the smuggler in the tavern will still tell me where to meet, but when I go there I just get attacked. This happens on every island when I try to smuggle. I'd hate to lose the ability to smuggle contraband cuz it's a great money maker.

Is there any way in the game that I can get back on the good side of the smugglers?

I also read on these boards that there may be a file that can be edited to reset the smugglers to friendly. Anyone know about this?

Please help. I haven't played the game in a week because of this, and I don't feel like starting over.
 
Have ye tried load'n a previous saved game before this happend,would solve yer problem mate <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
Sadly, I don't have any previous saved games. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I deleted them all before I found out about the problem.

Would talking to a diplomat help? Possible one in the Smugglers Lair?
 
If you're playing with the build12, try pressing the magical "I" button to `re-init` while in the game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> .
 
I´ve got a similar problem: I agreed to deliver some rum to the smugglers on Conceicao and accepted a pirate hunt from the governor. As luck would have it, the pirate was sailing just off the beach where I was supposed to meet the smugglers. I sailed there (via `Sail-To`), captured the pirate, but when i landed, there was no one there.
 
I dont have this problem, I also had to kill the smugglers cause in a fight with the island soldiers one of my officers hit one of them, and they attacked us, we killed them, but no problem, I still can smuggle. I also have build12.

And the first that I played the game without mods I killed the smugglers several times, but no hostile action from them, maybe its a rep problem. Now I'm hero, but when I killed them in build12 was neutral. But dunno why they attack you.
 
Those smugglers are impatient. They want you to see them NOW. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Accepting a pirate hunting mission from the governor at the same time somehow voided out the smugglers delivery.

A reputation drop when you kill smugglers is variable - depending upon how many are killed, &tc. When soldiers attack, I know you can't control your officers - so leave them behind next time and you won't have a problem with one killing someone with whom you are supposed to be doing business! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
