    WIP Bermuda Sloop 1740

Due to limited time with work, family and life commitments I dont get to work on my models as much as I would like. Sometimes a lot of progress gets made or it slows to a crawl but some progress is better than none. The Bermuda sloop is 61ft on the perpendiculars, has a breadth of about 22ft...

    Beyond New Horizons Alpha Release

Sorry for the second post, just another one I spotted - this one is the Neptunus and having sailed around it I would say it only appears at some angles? But not entirel sure on that.

    Beyond New Horizons Alpha Release

Not sure if this has been reported but the Dauntless class 1st rate has an issue with the sails - I've attached an image.

    Rhode Island Sloop 1725

It's been a while since I posted any progress updates (job and family stuff are priority), but I am still working on my models in the little free time I do have. Here is a a quick WIP render of the Rhode Island Sloop (compare it to the old renders above): Regards,

    WIP HMS Bellona (1760 version)

The only problem I found with reducing polygons is that the sheer may look odd if you remove vertical edges as there may be a noticeable straight edge in the curve especially in a large vessel such as this so care needs to be taken when making reductions. Regards,

    WIP HMS Bellona (1760 version)

Looking good, At the hull around counter there may be a need for a few adjustments of the vertices as it seems to be indented (if you follow the top edge of the counter to the side you should see what I mean). There is also a small anomaly which could just need triangulating (counting the top...

    WIP HMS Bellona (1760 version)

Looking good Armada, I noticed the area at the stern post is pinched inwards which could just be with the conversion from NURBS to polys. The keel will taper from the centre, and the stern post will taper from top to bottom as well. Usually I dont apply the tapers to the small vessels as...

    WIP HMS Bellona (1760 version)

That is an interesting way of modelling a hull, Also have you thought of uploading the hull form to sketchfab so your work can be seen in 3D as this may help getting feedback on the hull form. Regards,

    Might be a bit premature...

Character design will encompass as many as you want to do, from simple townsfolk to pirate captains or anything in between the choice is yours. I found that the Colonial Williamsburg website is useful for research/references on colonial clothing. There is even an interactive section were you...

    Might be a bit premature...

After reading your Bio I am surprised that your skills as a painter and illustrator are not being considered. You could create concept art for characters, weapons, ship illustrations, and obviously sea life. Then these illustrations/concepts could assist the modelling team, for example I have...

Architectura Navalis Pl XLII No. 5: Packet Sloop

Maybe this will help: Build up the hull were marked in red, the hances can be cut later while the stern section is usually straight. The straight stern line will not follow the decorative work in the stern view but to were the red cross intersect on the image. The yellow line is pointing at...

    Rhode Island Sloop 1725

Rhode Island Sloop (unknown name) Length of deck: 52ft Beam: 18ft Armament: none on plan but propose 4 - 8 carriage guns. This was modelled as a refresher exercise but as can be seen has progressed well. The plan only had four station lines and so I had to form the spaces between by eye. The...

WIP 17th century Dutch Frigate project

Hi, I have not had much time to work on the masts at the moment but I will continue with them soon, I did notice I made a mistake with the trestletree dimensions of the upper masts and so I have to re-calculate them again which shouldn't take long. Regards,

WIP 17th century Dutch Frigate project

I am still interested in doing the masts and yards, I will need a copy of the model to import into 3ds max and the beam of the vessel so I can write up a proportions table to work from. Regards,

WIP 17th century Dutch Frigate project

Hi, I would probably have a go at making some masts for this ship, I have a few books on masting and rigging so I have sufficient references to work from. I do have some questions first though. What scale is the ship currently at? What are the ships real life dimensions? Regards,

    Released Frigate "Rossiya", 1728

I looked through a couple of books in regards to anchor cables and here is what I found: In the Anatomy of the Ship Bellona the cables on the Bellona are 22inches in circumference and converted to diameter are around 7inches diameter while the Hawse holes are around 15inches in diameter. The...

Debate: Napoleonic Vessels vs. Golden Age Vessels

I voted for The Golden Age and Other, I prefer vessels from around the early eighteenth century to the end of the American Revolution but I do also like the smaller craft of the later periods such as the Royal Navy Cruizer Class brig-sloop (1797) and the American schooner Vixen (1803) which...
