YEr OWN VILE SOUNDS LADDIE

<span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><b><i>Check it out</i>, Use Start-Run-sndrec32.exe to record quick clips of YOUR OWN VOICE shouting or murmuring in your original pirate <i>lingua franca</i> </b>

Carefully, I copied the oringinal sound files from:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Pirates!\Assets\Sounds\carib\Tavern\TavernMarkers\CaptainPC folder,
such as CaptAYes.wav, CaptAGreet.wav, and in other folders of other characters and situations into a new subfolder, then I just used Windows' sndrec32.exe to make short clips, being careful to keep them about the same time length and file size, to make 44.1khz bitrate *.wav files - <i><b>GIVING THEM THE SAME NAME AS THE ORIGINAL FILE</b></i> - of my own scruvy chatter and yells that played inside the game where the original file did!

NOTE: Before you save each file, listen to the original right quick with a double-click in the open folder you're working in on each distinct file, and them mimic it with something garralous and gnarly and overwrite the *.wav file - keeping/substituting each original file name so the game will know what to incorporate.

ALSO: Before you save each file, boost the volume of each clip a few times and maybe add an echo effect, being careful not to overload/distort the gain setting of your mic - and augment this game to make the Carib even more yer very own!

<b>NOTE - <i>VERY IMPORTANT</i> - You MUST </b>leave the many set-piece long dance-music files alone, as the dancing time is tied to the 4/4 or 3/4 music time in an algorithm within the gamecode. But give this process a try!

It takes some time, but it's fun as hell, and the result was astounding. I even got my real life parrot yelling, chattering and screeching on board the sailing ship! Combine this with *.dds-converted files (which ATARI promotes in the ReadMe.html file on Disc 2) of pictures of myself and my parrot flying clearly and animated on my flagship's mainsail and flag! Be creative.

If ATARI doesn't want this posted anywheres cuz some skanky knave might bootleg his custom sound packages around. <i>I HEREBY STATE UNDER APPLICABLE LAWS THAT I DO NOT VILOATE COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL AS I ONLY, SOLELY, USE MY CUSTOM FILES ON MY MACHINE FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE ONLY AND DO NOT AND WOULD NOT DISTRIBUTE IT FOR PROFIT - despite my generally scurrilous ways, Arggh! -</i> I REALLY MEAN IT! If Atari - or some modder - I guess (I'm new to this!) wanted to make a customizable sound package batch file patch or utility, they could give it as a freebie on the boards or via private e-mail? I offer this discovery, most likely done by experienced others, but I just stumbled onto it and wante to share, totally freely to all in the gangrel spirit of piratific camraderie, <i>Avarrrrggh!</i>

So, for example, when I call for recruits in a tavern now, it plays, in my voice, <b>"<i><span style='color:darkred'>AVARRRGH, YE WRITHING JACKANAPES !!! LET'S SACK SOME BUTTERED BUTTS</span>!!!"</i></b></span>

Did I mention that, using the method described above, I changed my taunts during duels to the whistles and screeches of my own bloody real-life parrot by recording short clips of his sounds!? Cat meows inside the tavern, bongo drums, cymbal crashes, puking sounds from grog and the waves and rotting food! Whatever etc. ... Hilarious in the extreme!

Maybe even this site could trade especially good custom sound clips from members, telling where to eaxctly place the file in its right folder ... ?!

I also changed some Feared Pirates' sails and flags to some bawdy images. And I made the monk groan and "pass wind noisily"- no overt offense to relgion, just a sort of interjection in the entirely sordid Caribbean.

And a sinister Monk intones: <span style='color:darkred'><i><b>"Inflammable incomprable de los muchos Personas Indios Diabolos"</b></i></span>. HAHAHAHHA! YIPES!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

<span style='color:red'><i><b>Overlapping *.wav files</b></i></span> in <b>SNDREC32.EXE</b> is not hard at all <i><b>(Edit>Mix with File, with the slider at the beginning of the original sound *.wav file - see above posts to find folder where sounds are intricately located - then combine, adjusting for volume and echo, some other sound mingled in with the orignal groan or shout, of about the same time length so the game samples it correctly)</b></i>. So I have vomit sounds mingled in whilst I slashe th'enemy captain in combat, and so on, overlapping the default sounds, etc.. HeeHe.. AVARRRRGH!

Stuff like that - use your head and make it ripping fun! Use sleazy, pompous, perfidious and whatever ethnically accented voice for Governors and stuff like that. Or juicy teasing from barmaids or a tantrum from the Governor's Daughter when you flub the dance!!!! Aaaargh!
