I bought this last night and since they seem to be one of the very few who released the game without being on the so-called "Early Access" .. it did a good job in addicting me for 4 hours late night.

It's not piratey but a neat trade simulation where you have other competitors and a small generated map but a lot of fun; smuggling also can be done.

Edit: There are plenty of pirate NPC ships that attack you and battle is turn based. So far only 8 ship types with 3 choices upon starting a new game.
A wide variety of trade commodities available & the economy runs by supply & demand.
