the game randomly crashes. usually its in the tavern when i talk to the chick, but on occasion when ima sailin, the game just crashes to the desktop, no error message, no nuttin, just the desktop. its pretty damn frustatin but i like the game so ill keep playin, but if ne1 has any suggestions on how to fix this lemme know plz

I have a intel 82865G card with no T&L. I get to play Pirates for between 2 and 10 min and the it crashes and i get an error that saya " Windows- System Error
" Microsoft windows has detected and recovered from a device failure. please save your work and reboot to restore to full functionality." I have downloaded the 3D Analyzer and i have boosted all of my graphics. i dont know what to do. anyhting would help. Thanks

Unable to initialize DirectX

When trying to start the game (clicking shortcut) I get a <b>Initialization Error</b> which says <b>Unable to initialize DirectX. View the readme file for possible solutions to this error.</b>
I've had this game work perfectly once and that was after installing. So basically I've gotten this game to play once with out problems.
I've got DirectX 9.0c and all the latest drivers. Here's my specs.
Help is much appreciated, Thanks.

I got that about 50% on my old PC (Athlon K7, CPU 700MHz, W98SE). The other 50% of the time it would stick on the 3rd party copy protection joke.

On my new PC, it now crashes 100% of the time immediately after you pick your nationality and the opening sequence finishes. This is a brand new computer, Athlon `3100-something`-`or-other`, 2.1GHz, XP Home, 512MB Ram.

Game's going back today.

HELP HELP HELP HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Please help. I bought myself Sid Meier's Pirates and install it on my pc but also cannotinitialize with DirectX. I do not have much IT experience so I cannot fix it on my own.

I also have run the Diag and here is my results. Please have a look at it and let me know what to do. It all sounds a bid "Greek" to me

Hi everyone,

i have recently bought Pirates and i think its a great game but, like everyone else here i have a problem. i can play for about 1-5 mins before the game minimizes and a message apears saying:

Sid Meier's Pirates! has encounterd a problem and needs to close.

I have a couple of problems here. I just picked up the game for my husband for easter. We got the game installed, downloaded the 1.02 patch and installed that and first we just had the game lock up, or just crash to the desktop for no reason. I went and changed the video settings to the minimum in the game, disabled everything that I could in the video settings menu and it was still crashing. Now on top of that crash, we are getting another one with an error message

The instruction at "0x7c9122ba" referenced at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read.

So now I really have no clue what to do. Could someone please help?
