I ran into this game by chance, I thought some would like to check it out since it's a Pirate/sea adventure RPG. It's not new or anything, the graphics resemble an old Zelda game for the SNES, but the concept sounds interesting, I hope to get a little further into it before I can give an opinion if it's good or not.

This is an old game from the early 90s. It was the sequel to Uncharted Waters, which was on the SNES and Sega Genesis.

Grrr.....I saved it after I won this seemly impossible battle, but the problem is my ship is badly damaged and my save file is right before a storm; my ship sinks before I reach the safety of a port, I reloaded my file over ten times, I sink every time......there went two hours of my life. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I've had that happen plenty of times. Best to just put it out of your mind as fast as possible and play on. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Old Salt's post short: Been there, done that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I played the original at a friend's house ages ago, then his cat got hold of it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Well, I started over and I decided to go on a long voyage, I sold off my galleon and bought an Xebec with some modifications and set sail from Lisbon. Sailed down to Africa, around the horn, bought myself a sword in Japan and right now I'm in Rio <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

<b>Update:</b>After Rio, I sailed all the way past the Caribbean and past the US and into Canada, or at least what will be Canada and the US one day. I tried sailing through the arctic but I lost my crew when I was half way between Russia and Canada. So I reloaded my game and decided to turn around after hitting Jamaica.

My voyage was super expensive but prior to sailing out I hired myself to this Portuguese explores club so any discovery I make, I would receive gold in return. I must of made at least 20 discoveries, from ruins, to exotic animals. The thing that gave me the highest pay out was the Dodo, I got 100,000 gold for that bird.

Overall, a profitable trip, I have about 300,000 gold total and I was able to capture what I think is the strongest ship in the game from a pirate I defeated, so I'm all set.

I never finished the original game. It was massive. You could play as one of many characters as I remember. The only problem was that it became much to easy too fast, ship battles were never a problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Blimey - I used to play this too, it had "something" that is missing from most games these days, proof that gameplay is better than graphics (although both would be ideal).

Could I ask a question though please. Is this download converted in some way for running on XP, or are you running it via DOSBox or similar ? Or perhaps you just have an old PC kicking around...... Hang on!, I remember now, it ran on Windows 98 quite happily I think and I do still have a 98 PC in the loft......

I think that PC still has "Die by the Sword" on it too....

I always wanted to try out High Seas Trader too but could never get it to work on any system I owned.

So, is this a remake, or the original game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Would there be any hope of it running on XP?

I think it should work on XP, I don't know since my laptop runs on Linux. I'm using Zsnes to play the game.

Right now in my game I'm sailing to Santo Domingo to hunt down a Spanish fleet that the King has asked me to destroy for the safety of the world <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> After I beat the game with the English, I want to try the Dutch. The Dutch players story seems to revolve around sailing and making various discoveries.

I completely forgot about emulators. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I might have to give it a try. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

That sounds different from the original game. You played characters as I remember in the original. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
