Hey all,

Just been thinking about PotBS - I personally can't wait for the game, as I really like the age of sail and all, plus many of my SW Galaxies friends will be playing... so I'm just interested if you guys will be playing... If quite a few answer yes, we could create a guild! Or do any of you have different plans or have you already formed one?

Tell ol' Rico about yer plans and ideas! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

PotBS seems like it will be a really cool game, but I just can't get into the paying monthly to play. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yes - well, as I'm currently paying $25 monthly for SWG, I think I'll give that up... Not much of a prob though, as the emulator is coming out soon <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> (Raven: If you're reading this - yeah, it's merely wishful thinking <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />)

Doober, do you play and MMOGs?

Nope, I never have. I have heard they are extremely addicting though. If I was going to get in to one, it would be this one as I am a huge fan of the Age of Sail. I play enough PotC to get my wife mad at me, if I added another game, I would probably get booted out on my rear! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Yeah, they are quite addicting... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> The only way around getting booted out on your rear is to get your wife to play too! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Well i'll be playing it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> untill a 70% working emu is released that is... its nice to play in the official servers of any game, but P2P really ain't for my life style.

I was looking forward to POTBS, but unfortunately the more I read about it the less I want to play it, I'll check out the open Beta when it comes out, and make my mind up from there.

Welcome back, RivaL! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> I seem to remember your name and your sig making uberpowers, but not much else - how has life been treatin' ya? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Hey Rico, I'v always kept an eye on PA, just not posting as much anymore.
My MI reviews are still up though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> .

As for my issues with POTBS, from the information I can gather, it seems to me they have put up alot of unnecassary barriers which I think might reduce the feel of freedom or realism in the game.

The most significant being the way they have set up pvp, with the 'zone' system.
They have set it up, so that to create a pvp zone, a town must be pushed into a state of 'unrest', which is done by alot of players doing missions which each contribute points towards the towns status. To me that feels way too 'arcade' style for a pirate game, especially a pirate MMORPG.

It reminds me of playing capture the flag in a first person shooter. =/

But then I could be completely wrong <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> , I suppose the devs know better than anyone what will benefit the game, so only time will tell.

But trust me, I'm hoping I love this game.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> Thats sounds kinda weird, maybe it will turn out alot better in the actual game. I certainly hope so considering how many people are eagerly waiting its release!

Well, this type of controlled PvP is controlled by the pvpers, thus making them happy, and it gives the non-pvpers the option of not participating in pvp which they will welcome.. I think it'll work well.

Well if their is one MMORPG i would consider to play it would be this one.

In principle i just dont like the whole MMORPG thing, i've never subscribed myself to one, but have 'had a go' on a friends account(WoW)+a few console on-line games.

I know in PC dev circles they are seen as something of the 'golden-grail' for the future of PC gaming, cutting out pirating and ensuring a constant stream of revenue to the companies concerned.

Still my big problem is that for the most part i'm almost gauranted to have my game spoiled due to the multi-player aspect, and the way people often act(childish i guess?) in on-line games.

So yeah if i could remove the other players(at least the ones i didnt like having in my game) then i'd find MMORPG's more to my taste - kinda defeats the purpose of them though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

So sadly i expect i'll probably not be getting into PotbS, but if they ever released a single player version of the game, based on what they've learnt during the making of the MMORPG then i'd probably get it.

REALLY COOL GAME, but pay to play just ended it for me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> . if you do the math

$15 a month = $180 a year = $540 for 3 years (my time in a mmo) that means if you have items to buy you can spend over $1000 for a game. thats just outragous. now free to play is my kind of game, get to have fun. have the ability to buy real cash items for ingame cash from other people. that means you never pay real cash yourself and use l33t skills to get l33t items :p

anyways VOYAGE CENTURY ONLINE is just like pirates of the burning seas, BUT FREE!!!! FOR EVER!!!!

anyways my answer would be no. just ptp isn't cool

My opinion:

If the game has a reasonable monthly fee ,that's good. If you can earn "money" through how much you play, as in battles won, skills learnt, etc, and use the "money" to buy weapons, ships and the like... I'd get it.

But if it's one that has a real money price for a 3D model that moves and makes a noise in a game and doesn't benifit you in real life... forget it. (It's different than paying to see a 3D person running around, thats entertainment, and you aren't buying 3D people every day like you would ammo, guns and that sort of stuff.)

Like Black Bart, I'd say they should release a Single Player version of PotBS, with at least a simple multiplayer aspect like most games have these days. And none of that "You want to host a game? Well you have to buy a slot on a server."

*Phew* That was a rant. :p

Eh - have you played an MMO before? In my opinion, the 15 bucks they're asking for PotBS as a monthly fee is pretty reasonable. And you can only earn ingame stuff in the game, you can't buy anything with real money. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

You weren't quite clear as to what you meant exactly. Could you elaborate?

I will be there at launch. Not going to miss this one.

I agree, $15 is very reasonable.

What i have seen it will be a nice game and Akella is helping the developers of Flying Lab, so it might turn to be ok <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
