Sea Dogs: To Each His Own

Yeti

Landlubber
Hi! Sorry for being one of 102020220 people to post a new thread about this game, but I think this is important- it IS real, as in being avaiable on Steam for non-Russians since Friday. While the official English release is slated for 12th February, we can access public ENG beta easily- and the game is ridiculously cheap (-66%) until Friday due to Lunar NY Sale. I have bought meself a copy before it got discounted, and three more for my friends after that. Now I am only trying to wrestle with my PC and then I will be ready to set sail :)

And you can finally unlock the main thread- the trolls have officially lost their source of nourishment!

Save 66% on Sea Dogs: To Each His Own on Steam

Has an initial(well a bit beyond from the forum threads) English translation.

I ONLY noticed as a DLC popped up for this game the other day, so I went to check and persevered through to the forum.

I bought it(on sale through tomorrow) and it installs (for me anyways) by default in English. (Earlier they had the english in a beta branch...). The menus, options, etc. were all in English BUT I haven't had time to really play yet, so I can't go beyond that.

Is this the same game as mentioned in locked threads here? I think Pirate's Odyssey or something like that with the same subtitle? It's supposed to be a mod of the AoP2 engine from what I gathered in the forums.

I also bought it, seriously wondering after about an hour of play how they think the English translation's ready for full release tomorrow. Have encountered about a dozen characters so far in just the starting town whose entire conversation trees and your replies to them are all in Russian. Looks like much of the game files are encrypted too, which is a little weird - that's losing them sales due to people not being able to cheat early game and asking for refunds. That which actually is in English is half the time so badly worded it makes no sense. Just feeling really damned glad I got this for cheap-ish, can't deny I'm not pondering a refund myself though.

The game was originally called Pirates Odyssey To Each his Own, the name change happened some time last year I believe. I have bought the game, and downloaded it myself, but haven't had the chance to try it.

@Stallion, have you tired activating the English Beta? You can find the instructions HERE!

The version on the main menu should say "ver 1.3.0 ENG (01.12.15)" or something similar.

@Thagarr: Yep, it seems they've pushed the beta out as full release because it downloaded nothing. Tried a few more quests and the translation's better, hoping maybe the untranslated stuff's just a fluke.

Going to wait for tomorrow and see if maybe they patch it a bit, was just friended by a guy wondering if I ran into the same all-Russian dialogue as he did :(

Ahoy pirates. Started yesterday. Fighting system has changed. But is it a step forward? I doubt it. Had an appointment with the tavern girl, but an evil bastard met me in the room upstairs you know. About two minutes fight against him, before I got him finally down. That can be fun 1 vs 1, but there are a lot of melee fights in that game, right? Will it be fun there too? hmm. In addition to that: While you're fighting, your perspective tends to not being centred anymore, you'll get sort of a side view of your own fight. I don't really like that. There are a lot of new items in the game, true, I'll be able to craft useful things out of trash, ok nice. Useful? We'll see ... Not really impressed so far. You know the benchmark is Gentlemen of fortune.

Does anyone know if there is any tutorial or game guide available in english for this game? The game itself doesn´t offer much and i can´t find anything like this in my steam account :confused:

So, is it me, or can you not find any officers in this game? I am already playing the Mission with the Dutch West India Company and I never saw an officer sitting in a tavern that I could hire! I am alone!!! Any help? Or is this a bug?

I´m not absolutely shure but till now i also only have a navigator that the game gave to me after i freed him from prison. Maybe all is linear in this game and we are not really free in our dicissions like it was in AoP before. I also didn´t see any officers in taverns till now, only smugglers and citizens. Would be very helpful if the developers could assist us a bit in this forum. Otherwise we have to find out all on our own.

I think you just aren't lucky, or perhaps somehow your game bugged? Because I for example, after I got the navigator a couple weeks (in-game) later, met lots of officers.
P.S. I didn't see any side-view while fighting melee.

@Pieter Boelen
I can´t post there, don´t know why, maybe because i´m new there and didn´t install the bought game till now. Anyway i don´t have permission yet and at the moment i prefer to play a different version. Also the users there are more reviewing whether they like the game or not and don´t ask questions about gameplay. I don´t understand why Blackmark doesn´t offer a english speaking section in their forum. By the time it will work well here too i think.

@Messiah
Could you please tell me where to hire sailors at the beginning. I lost some on my way to Guadeloupe and Barkeeper doesn´t offer them to me.

This seems like the best place you can possibly ask questions: Sea Dogs: To Each His Own General Discussions [ENG] :: Steam Community
The developers aren't likely to suddenly appear here to answer your questions and nobody can force them to make more forums for their game, when they already have one.
Have to make do with what there is. :shrug

Thanks for your help but Steam isn´t really helpful for ingame matters. I prefer to try to find help here. I´m not in a hurry with this game and can wait till more pirates are familiar to it here.

Ok, now I found some officers and hired them. I was in Antigua. The next problem is, I was kidnapped in Santiago, after I've delivered a letter to the usurer. I got small health bar guess 55 or like that and every time I get outside the room I meet the kidnapper and get killed, because I don't have any health potions. Now I wanted to ask, if there's a cheat to activate god mode or a trainer? I'm trying to kill them since 2 hours but got killed. This is very annoying. Or I have to load a savegame before I got back to Willemstad and told the HWIC that I've successfully escorted Balthazar.

Has anybody come that far with the brother's quest, that you have to find a privateer in Antigua? I already was in the whole town and could find nobody. But a house of a Charley Knippel who exactly looks like Gibbs from POTC! But there ain't any dialogue either :( I need help :(

Can´t help you in that at the moment but i found out myself that everyone that is starting this game from the beginning, that you all have to follow the storyline from Charles Brother till you talked to him after visiting Fadey in his house in Guadeloupe, BEFORE you can hire Sailors and Officers. In this game you are only free to do what you want AFTER that. I didn´t know it and was wondering all the time why i´m not free in my decissions, maybe because i was playing AoP2 to long before. ;)

I've completed the amazing Dutch West India Company to the end. And now I face the problem again: I can not find the guy (privateer) in Antigua nor the other guy in Barbados (Bridgetown). Please help me. What do I have to do and how can I find them? I tried to ask everybody but there was no dialogue option :/

As soon as something can be bought in this world, it's starting to become so interesting. Curiosity rising everywhere. A new pirate game. And we can pay for it. Oh, we cannot mod it, we never will. There will be exactly one person working on it a little bit. For two months or so. The game isn't actually good either, it gives you a feeling of Age of Pirates 1. Yeah, 2006. But we don't care about details. It's new. And it's on steam.
All you Hearts of Oak, New Horizons, Gentlemen modders out there (you are just a few I know), get together, throw everything on Steam, and get yourself a real mansion in Belize. YOU would deserve it.
