Pirate Legend
This was originally announced back in February, so I am a bit late, but I figured some of you may not have heard about it yet. Steven Jensen’s Independent Television Group is set to produce a limited TV series called Red Flag about the female Chinese pirate Ching Shih. Set in the early 1800's, Red Flag will follow the rise of this former prostitute through the ranks and to the top of one of China's most powerful crime syndicates. At the height of her power, Ching commanded over 100,000 sailors, 1500 plus ships and controlled the South China Sea with her great Red Flag Fleet. She also controlled and even taxed many coastal towns and villages. With the fleet behind her, she backed down to no one, taking on the Imperial Chinese navy, the Portuguese navy, and the British navy. She would conquer them all!

There is no announcement yet about where or when it will air, production is set to begin in the fall in Malaysia. Red Flag will be written by Jim McGrath star Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission: Impossible III, Nikita) and Francois Arnaud. Arnaud will play Carlito, a Portuguese sailor and bounty hunter hired to hunt down and capture Ching Shih.

Pirate TV series are just popping up like mushrooms! Not complaining though; sounds like it has potential. :woot

Yes, there certainly have been quite a few lately! I haven't been able to find out anything more about that Port Royal series that was announced a while back though, it may may have been cancelled. It will be good to see somewhere else besides the Caribbean.

Black Sails was great, haven't watched Crossbones yet but the trailers and a review I read today kind of lowered my excitement. This has potential, I liked Maggie Q in Nikita and Francois was really good as Cesare in The Borgias.
