With CoAS being released and permission to use characters from it ,as well as AOP stuff.....we have plenty of extra characters to add to the build, but they all need converting, and I can't do it alone.
So..if anyone is interested in trying to learn animation,I'll make the time to try do some tutorials,as well as help with any problems.
All you need is Maya & the help files and lots of patience.

Any takers?

Well a tutorial is always nice. Since I want to know how to cut and past things from one character to the other, like haircuts/heads and hats <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> So I need the animation thing too!

Brilliant offer, Damski! Maybe we should move this outside the POTC Modding forum; some of the CoAS people might be interested too.

Move it to the ordinary forum if you wish Pieter....it'd probably better since most people here already have things to do anyway <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
CoAS folk might be interested but we have'nt got the CoAS source files....only a skeleton that has no animation.

Thomas....have you installed Maya?

damski.

Could someone let me have a man an. file for CoAS please

Yep, Maya is installed with the plugin tools. I watched the videos and I could rescale a cube <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. And I have imported some characters in OBJ format thanks to the gm viewer.

Moved. I'm assuming that our PotC modders do look at the other forums, but I know many of the CoAS players don't.
Does anyone think we should have a general character forum similar to the general ships forum?
After all, characters, ships and locations are fairly interchangable between the games.

Good idea to create a characters forum......maybe a locations forum as well.

Thomas..try have a fiddle about with the animation help files....it'll get you used to Maya's different functions.

Great Pieter,.....that'll keep things more organized.

Request:-
An files for CoAS needed...... Man & Woman Please <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Just to clarify....we can do PoTC animation.....probably with the requested files,we could do CoAS.But unless we can get hold of the AOP skeleton we can't do AOP animation.

So Damski, you mean we can already make new animations for the potc characters, like shooting with muskets, or new fighting animations for swords, rapier, axes, etc?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> ,

With practice and patience...yes, but believe me it's not easy work and it can be very frustrating.

I'd be willing to volunteer to help with this.

I've been able to get some models built in Maya, but damned if I can get them textured worth jack.

Cap'n Drow

If you UV map, I would like to texture them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

yes, a tutorial would be great! :yes
i haven't been able to bind the model back, always getting this distorted polygons.

so you're saying we can create unique move for each characters right?

Hey Everyone!
Wait a second - did you just say you were able to export animations from maya to ingame?!

I know how to animate, and rig in maya (at least the basics... I never got into melscripting...)- and if anyone needs help with that I am mooore than happy to oblige. How did everyone get a hold of CoAS? I thought it hadn't been released yet?

Do you have to use the already existing ingame skeleton? I understand that you would want the character skeleton to add animations that could be used universally for everyone. Would you be able to create your own custom objects and rig/animate them as you please?

Damski62 is our animation wizard, but he hasn't been seen on the forum for quite a while.

City of Abandoned Ships has been released in the western world (excluding The Netherlands) about half a year ago.
It's STILL ridiculously hard to find for certain people (read: me), but it IS released.

Hey Pieter! Good to see you again!

Great Scott! CoAS has been released! that is VERY good news. For some reason it still had a few months. EBgames.com doesn't have any copies available, but I'll find some way of tracking it down. I recently found some books in our library that are a part of the Anatomy of a Ship series that are AMAZING. Taking a second look at some of the ships that you guys made for the game, I feel like I stumbled on these a lot later than everyone else. It is still really exciting for me though.

I want to check out the animation tools sometime though - that sounds really cool!

Any idea what happened to Cyberops and the supermod? His website seems to be broken?

//edit// I just realized what threw me off. I checked Akella's website, and CoAS is still listed on their In Development list for Q1 2009. Unfortunately they do not seem to have a online store.

I have added you to the "Modders" group. Have a look at this thread:
