Question about ships

BootstrapBill

Landlubber
Hello

I think I read from various threads and reviews that apparently each subtype of ships looks abit different in game. For example an English sloop looks a bit different than a Dutch sloop and so on with the other ship types too.

But so far all the ships in every given class looks exactly the same. Even the colours.

Can anyone confirm if this is just the way it is or did I just no play the game lomg enough. I am still in late 1640.

Even POTC had different looking ships for each subtype.

Strange.

Thanks,
Gian

I don't know much about the looks of the ships. I did notice that each shipyard offers ships of the same class with different hull points and cargo capacities. They're also different in price. Sometimes this isn't really enough to make a difference, but I have noticed differences of up to 100 cargo capacities for one type of ship. I think this is a random thing.

100 x $60 Chocolate = $6000 dollars, so even though it might not seem like a big deal, It might be worth trying to find a ship with just a little more space.

Also crew sizes are different.

But I really can't tell a difference in the look or colors.

all color scemes are the same unfortunatley, it seems like they have forgotten Sea Sogs and Pirates of the Caribbean compleatly were ship classes had multiple skins.

however you will see the difference between a ship that has an upgraded hull and one wich hasent.

Aahh, IC, well that is a pity. Hopefully in a mod or expansion later.

I have to say though that the ships look really good with all the rigging etc. Much more details than POTC and also when you upgarde the ship that you see the plating etc. Very cool!!!!

Lets hope they introduce variations of ships in the upcoming expansion.

Fingers crossed.

It is all about the ships for me.

Regards,
Gian

This seems to be a more and more common "feature" among new nautical/pirate games.I've been hooked on the genre since sea dogs so I try to keep an eye on the different games and thier current level of development and thats one think I noticed in quite a few of the upcoming games is how alike the ships look.Theres even one game who's name wont be mentioned that so far according to the screenshots and other info has the same skin for all but I think 2 of the ships in the whole game.I don't know if all these game designers drive the exact same color cars or what, but personally I like a bit of variety and even sometimes dare I say some uniqueness(sp?) and style. No i'm not expecting them to let us put a spoiler on the back and spray some nice flames down the sides of the ship, but atleast from histories standpoint not all ships looked the same, neither in paint/scheme nor in design(even in the same class/type).

I agree with Fry

And also, haven't seen any other variations but one for each ship for each nation, meaning a French Galleon looked Exactly the same as a Dutch one.

If there are 4 variation of each ship are they in values ie hold, speed or in color as well.

What I would LOVE to see is a ship yard where you can add a few more things to the ship like it i currently does with the plating, but maybe also a bow statue and other parts which could make your ship a bit more individual and even a painter if you so wanted.

Cheers,
Gian

Akella does ship models fer udder games such as PotBS, it be no secret... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

from each ship there are 4 versions, each nation has either a special marker or some color difference.

i havent seen any evidence AT ALL of that

yep, but there are no whatsoever variations of ships, because the textures cant be counted as that because they are simply textures for an upgraded version. PoTC had ship hulls with totally different color schemes and detail.

What ive said above means their are no different looking ships for each nation only a difference for hullupgrades. I said noting other than this.

MM, if u remember, different ships in PotC was one folder for each model with a different texture. Most models of same type were equal, their was only a difference in texturing.

actually, its been a while since i played now but i do know that the frigate and Man o war in PoTC had different model variants with different model geometry.

That'sc ause almost every ship in POTC has been modded one way ur anuther MM, give it time and modders will do the same fer AOP <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

So true.
Even if it was in the number, shape and placement of lanterns, or the shape of the Figurehead, the models were often different.

The galleons, Fleuts, caravels, barques, yachts, battleships, all have two model variations in POTC.

when i talk comparing PoTC and AoP i talk about the stock game, no mods <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
