POTBS Ships

Yes, I believe you have. Thanks, Captain. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Captain Monty explained the mechanics quite well.

I actually spent some time in Beta of that game, 8 months in Closed beta and then the month and a half of open and then 6 months after release.

I also took part in the Player Made Content making Flags and Ships...the Ships in that game are much more Detailed than the ones we have in Storm Engine, it goes from 30 000 polys to 100 000 polys.

Of Course, they do have the engine that can support Millions of Polys...I have been in Port Battles where we have 24 vs 24 SOL's, that is 100 000 polys per Ship, plus the land, Forts and gun Emplacements etc.

That is why Ships do look really nice compared, they can have many more details, cannons made out of 12-20 sided cylinders rather than 6 sided ones, same for masts and rays etc.

Storm Games require some Optimization and Clever ways to accomplish same things with texture rather than meshes, because of the lower polygon requirements.

POTC was about 6500-7000 poly count for ships tops...(I do not know if Storm Engine 2.5 or 2.8 have better limits).

The Other thing is that POTBS is an RvR MMORPG game, this is quite different than Solo RPG games such as Sea Dogs, POTC, AOP etc.

In either case it is nevertheless a fun game, (albeit I would have done some things differently) that can be entertaining for many, as most MMORPG's usually are (and I have been playing them with my Guild, since Ultima Online in 1997...even before Sea Dogs).

Here are some ships of ours:
Two Royal Scots Navy Herculess Class frigates.

And Invincible first rate from Royal Secret Service.
