I'll have to try it out.

I would say I am disappointed by the game, but I wasn't really expecting much after reading their message boards.

I encountered only one other player the whole time I played( couple hours over 4 days), big empty seas except for NPCs and the sea combat is not at all realistic, what's more you can't claim the ships you board and carry!

All in all I'd rather play PotC with the build mod for a few hours than PotBS, and I can't say fairer than that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

The various upgrades and ship customization is something I'd like to see in the build mod, AoP has a little upgrading but I think it was poorly designed.

I was thinking of stealing their ship models now that I have the game data, I can extract the models but they're in a strange .igb format which I have no idea what to do with. Maybe it's a proprietary format <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Yippe-ka-ye. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Finally.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> See, mmorpgs suck. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

You need to create a Toon on Antigua server as it is most populated sever. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Maturin, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> wierd thing is that I haven't seen any decent mmorpgs what have single player elements in it. Npcs are lifeless in mmorpgs and quests are.. well, since npcs allways stay at same place in mmorpgs.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" /> Bleh, it's more like taking a mission from mission booth in Privateer (a space-shooter-trading game) rather than speaking with a person and getting a quest. Don't like mmorpgs.. worst mmorpgs I've played are Anarcy Online and WoW.. all I got to say about playing them is one word: Balls. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" />

Only single players seem to be having a quality rpg feel and gameplay, mmorpgs tend to get unrealistic and boring fast. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Main problem what mmorpgs have: Overpopulation of heros. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Arrr, Skull! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Fred Bob's been slowly updatin' his PotBS tew de current version, maybe it'll finish tewnight, then Fred Bob'll be hunting ye down on Antigua! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

What be dat PotBS handle ye been usin', matey? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I was looking forward to this but it seems its quite a disappointment from what I've heard... as bad as SWG (but thats been out for 5 years...)
I'd try this but unless I find an Internode mirror I think i'll be passing.

Ahoy there I'm quiet new here . . . pirates r my passion and POTBS is my game for now .... hokked on <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

and yes this new trial key's is awsome a was looking for one for months to see with my own eyes the game play.... for now I'd like so much

If any one need anything don't hesiatate and look for me IG or here
and what I like most is the eco system.... all players make their own ship's particulary I go for one first rate 106 cannons <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Yep The learning curve is steep but in the end you can enjoy much, must to say... in POTCO I'd love figth the BB, but when I've done mine it's harder playit again..... here the port battle system lets you repeat this experience. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Btw I have pretty much fun with the MOD 13 of POTC thank's a lot! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I waited for a long time for that game, I was so disappointed. Its like plaing PotC in WoldMap only.
I all depends on what you want, people have different demands.

I will always put the experience of sailing a ship higher than MMORPG-stuff, no matter how well-balanced it is.

I played this in beta while on holidays in europe and really wanted to like it, but just couldnt. It took every reason i played POTC and ruined it;

Physics based ship combat with cannonballs that fly through the air and disperse, hitting whatever is in the way, with realistic accuracy and low chance to hit at long range = gone, now weve got MMORPG number crunching with pretend graphics. If i wanted a spreadsheet..

Realistic or at least somewhat realistic ship sailing and tactics with slow speeds (no more than 15kn, mostly 5kn), no sailing into the wind and slow turning = gone, now weve got 'lowest common denominator' superspeed sailing that makes it all a big joke

Sailing between islands in directsail = gone, now a stupid map mode. This was THE single biggest thing i was excited about when reading early POTBS dev blogs about catching the right winds and sailing between islands - it was supposed to have a compressed game world where you had to sail in directsail. I would have accepted every other flaw on this list if this revolutionary feature had made it in. Even speedy gonzales ships. It would have been the most emergent portrayal of age of sail tactics to have ships and players plot courses on the sail map and engage as the situation dictates

Semi RPG mainly realistic approach to gunnery and character skills, with fairly rapid progression in character skills - however, ships are unrestricted and depend on what you can capture, and officers can help you = gone, stupid MMORPG grind fest crap instead where it takes decades of killing useless crap to be anywhere near half decent, you cannot get any help or hire any officers to help you and you cannot keep ships you board and must follow a VERY grindy and VERY unrealistic ship ladder, buying only once you reach the right level.

All in all i just felt that everything that made this kind of game good was the realism mixed with a bit of suspension of belief and happy go lucky approach - eg big ship captures - NOT grinding. And all that disappeared when POTBS decided it needed to be more like every other MMORPG.

Everyone always says that these kinds of games need to be lowest common denominator to suit the masses, but i just think thats not true. Simulators can attract large numbers; look at ms flight sim which most pc players have played. Test Drive Unlimited 1 had a hardcore mode that was very popular with players and TDU2 got criticized for removing it and making the driving more arcade. There is a large group of players out there who DO want realism in their games, but just want it tempered with a good story and gameplay. I am a big fan of race sims like Grand Prix Legends and GTR, but youre only ever on a track racing. Many people, like me, want a simulator with the heart of a game - Test Drive Unlimited 1, with hardcore mode, is a prime example of the kind of game that develops when you merge open world with realistic physics but gamey story. POTBS looked like it was heading in that direction, then it shifted course.

^^ We are in agreement....I started it the other week, and although the graphics and the feel were initially great, once I passed the tutorial and entered the first city.....Well, hellish memories from the days I played 30 hours LineageII without sleep came to my mind.... same gameplay engine as any other mmorpg, everything is run by actual human players and as any other mmorpg, 90% of it is either pvp or number-crunching economic micromanaging...I remember in Lineage spending days (real days) trying to buy and sell armor....NEVER AGAIN LOL
