Pistols!

KevO44

Lord High Admiral of the Seven Seas

An idea: Have the pistols in the game do more damage.

I mean, if you shoot someone in the back, when he's wearin no shirt, or just one shirt, he should fall to the ground. Perhaps then he could squirm a little, and ye could choose to finish him off, or leave him and let him live.

Of course this idea would not work on those wearing armor. But the point im making is: You see a guy comin at you with his sword, you shoot him, and he keeps on comin. Thats not right! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />:

The pistol fire will make damage to the person hitpoint ( depend on what kind of pistol you are using and the damage it did ) so it will take some of the person hp not all of it which you have to take the rest of it by sword .

I like using my pistol, but I hate getting shot! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Most naval pistols were large caliber smoothbores, therefore the HP should be quite high at close range.
For example, I own a Charleville Model 1777 reproduction that fires a .69 caliber ball. I've shot it using 25 grains of FFg powder, and the kick was pretty bad (about as much as a .44 mag). Anyway, the thing shot high and to the left, but I managed to hit a paper target at 20 feet no problem (after finding the correct charge). Reload time is about 25 seconds (the fastest I've reloaded and fired a flintlock rifle is 19 seconds).
So, in effect one shot from a large caliber smoothbore pistol would disable an opponent on the spot.
Anyway, would be great to see blunderbusses/swivels in game, along with pikes or halberds (how about guards with halberds?).

Yours, Mike

If you hack or stab someone with a cutlass they would also be just as effectively "disabled".

It's all or nothing - and don't forget that means YOU "die" every time an enemy hits or shoots you as well...

Realism is great, but fun is the most important thing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

A wider range of weapons including muskets and halberds would be fantastic though.

Fair enough, maybe in a future Sea Dogs game?

As a Sharpe fan I would love to see a Nock Volley Gun in game (Think musket with 7 barrels <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> )

You'll have to get your skates on as "Sharpe's Escape" was released a couple of months ago.
The only ones I've not read is a couple of "short" stories that I might try to purchase online sometime soon.

Ditto <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

The books are (as usual) much better than the films. Although the films are good!

I especially like the historical sections at the end of the books - really fills in the gaps and gives you a strong sense of how what you just read fits in.

Do I win an award for hijacking this thread? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Dang, I'm just totally left out on this Nic Sharpe buisiness... he's another British literure character, like that WW1 ace, whatshisname, my mate used to tell me about reading as a lad?

Back to guns: I've played with the stats before, and apparently you can add more barrels to any gun simply by increasing a value... but it looks like it only goes up to 4 shots.
