Pirates! Information/Features All In One!

Yes, what Cap'n Toast said! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Never played the old version like that, so can't say. But you will have to pay a LOT of attention to the wind, and make sure your ship is upgraded with all the fancy equipment so you have the advantage - but there are other factors that will make turning quickly quite difficult - `square-riggers` just don't have that kind of turning radius in REAL LIFE, and I think they've tried to echo that here.

Now, that´s really nice to hear <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
Another question that arose this weekend: At the highest difficulty, do you still jump from a fairly low reputation to the highest if your first voyage was moderately succesfull? It´s that way in the old one, the reputation depends on the gold in the treasure cave and getting 20% at swashbuckler´s level, after the first journey the reputation jumps from "promising" (fairly low) to "infamous" or "notorious" (highest), while on apprentice level, reputation increases slowly (promising, well known, famous, infamous, notorious)

Swashbuckler level? I don't think I am capable of a moderately succesfull voyage on that level <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Question of training. By now I´ve got the feelng, "swashbuckler" merely means that annoying wind difficulties (it IS annoying when sailing from Havanna to Barbados) and being attacked by pirate hunters every five seconds, but as to the fights, I don´t feel any effect. I can defeat any ship with my barque and with the crews picked up from three or four galleons I´ve got a force matching any city´s defense. What´s realy difficult is selling all the stuff in time so my crew doesn´t mutiny.

Ah, I let 'em mutiny! So far they haven't killed me off, LOL! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<snicker> If they want to mutiny when I've only got 35 gold, let 'em steal it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I'll just go after they've mutinied to pick up some pirate's treasure, and use it to buy more things from the mysterious stranger! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yeah, but it´s annoying when you´re sailing up the Florida Street, having captured the Treasure Fleet on sea and raided all the cities in the Bay of Campeche, over 300.000 Gold pieces in the load and then these goddammit impatiant ruffians mutiny and steal half your gold, usually the very moment before you sail into the harbour of Tortuga.

Ahhh, the life of a "real pirate"! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Indeed. And this weekend it happened again, in the end I had to divide the plunder though I still had over 200 loads of food left, but the merchant couldn´t buy them and my crew was angry already.

yeah, that stinks Grimm. I've been accussed of dividing too often... but it's for that reason alone. I hate to have to dump it all before I am ready becuase of crew morale.

Problem is, if you divide too often, you don´t have the time to collect enough gold so your men are at least pleased when the plunder is divided (to get them happy I managed just once, having plundered the whole Gulf of Darien region, that is, Puerto Bello, Panama and Cartagena, finding an ancient treasure and having only about 50 men left when I sailed into the habour of Curacao), on the other hand, if you cruise about too long they´ll grow impatient. It´s kinda hard to keep the balance, but, then again, that´s what makes the game so good.

I had em mutiny and they also took a ship.... Which I promptly attacked and took back lol <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

There are a lot of possibilities to keep the crew happy. I plunder every ship that gets in my way. Plundering keeps my crew happy.

Question on Time, I don't think the ratio of 6 minutes = 1 year is correct. If that was correct, A decade would only last a hour, and if someone could tell me what is the starting age, I can figure how long a game would actually be. Example: Start at 20 and end at 50 would be only 3 hours. Please someone explain.

I think that can be tweaked, Captain Python. And the starting age is 20, I think.

Time passes at a rate of a day every few seconds if you are at sea or on land, but if you are at sea during combat, a day could take several minutes to pass. During dueling, land combat, visiting a town, checking info screens, buying, selling, or plundering, time stands still. Dividing the plunder robs six months from your life. If you're imprisoned you could be there from three to twelve months. You can escape, and cut that prison time down. You lose time if you've been marooned by an angry crew, too.

I think the estimated average completed game will last about `5-6` hours.

I mean I started in the young age of 18. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Now I am 30 Years old in game (not only in RL <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) and in fair health. I still have a few thinks to do and hope i have enough time to get them done.

Anyone besides me hoping that they release a patch for the PC version that puts in multiplayer when the `X-Box` version is released? *crosses fingers*
