Pirates! CD Key Location

For £40.00 quid, I'll also sell you a `CD-Key` and I'll throw in a free copy of the game. How does that sound?

I bought a PC copy of Sid Meier's Pirates! today and when I got home and tried to install it I found that there was no `cd-key`. I have looked on the cover and inside the cover as has been suggested on here but there is nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do? I am quite annoyed about this as I was looking forward to playing it over Christmas. I am in my parents house which is out of town so I can't return it to the shop for a week or so. Thanks in advance for any help.

Adding on to that, it's a pc copy. The manual has a spine and isn't a spiral notebook. The box is made of card and the cds were inside without a case. Nothing else inside bar the maual, 2 cds and leaflet for an atari free competition prize draw. I bought it in Dublin.

The US package has it on de inside o' de front manual cover... de European package might be havin' it somewhars else... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> De UK `CD-Key` be on de back o' de DVD case! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Did ye look on de back o' de DVD case? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

There is no dvd case. It came in a card box with the cds(without cases) and manual inside. Very puzzling.

No key in the manual. I've looked through it. There is nothing on the cover and the page inside the front cover is completely blank. I am worried that the shop will refuse to change it as I opened the box. I have the reciept.

If a `cd-key` is missing then the store is selling pirated copies. It´s an act of crime / piracy if your local dealer sells pirates without any Cd Key. If the shop shop will refuse then I´ll use all methods I can to get a legal copy of pirates.

Makes us legit owners pretty pissed off.

Murty:

The version I got (Aussie version from Dick Smith) had the sticker at the back of the manual on the page before the "notes" section.

The store should exchange your game if you cannot find the key. If they do not, there is something pretty strange going on at your store...

Sorry, Drake... Had to delete your post - we may be pirates, but we do NOT support pirating software... Cracks and hacks have no place on these boards...

Okay, I'm not trying to argue, because I agree with the software piracy stance whole heartedly, but didn't POTC build 11 have a no cd patch, and isn't that the same thing?

Aye, Bully, dat fact's been brought tew de Build's install team's attention an' hopefully will git addressed properly in de next Build version, matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<i><b>Software Piracy:</b></i>
Software piracy is the copying and/or distributing of copyrighted software without the permission of the copyright holder. Intention and lack of awareness of the material's copyright status are not an excuse, legally.

While it could be said that by removing the CD requirement to run POTC, when modified with POTC Build 11 and up is an act of perhaps making it easier to conduct Software Piracy - it cannot be argued that by removing the need for the CD to be in the drive (A copyright protection strategy), that this IS an act of piracy.

The Pirates of the Caribbean Mod is just that - A `fan-made` addition made `not-of`-profit and provided to owners of POTC. The Mod Team is not breaking any copyright laws or any statutes in what they are doing. They are not selling the game, nor distributing illegal copies of the game.

Software Ownership is a much disputed thing. In most EULA (does anyone read them?) You are not a registered OWNER, but a registered USER. "By clicking OK, you acknowledge this and that, blah blah blah ..." I am sure on US soil that can be very much argued that by paying $50+ to only be considered a user and therefore cannot make or modify my own copy of something can be ruled that it exceeds any laws in place governing right of ownership ... But I am ahead of myself here.

The act of piracy would occur in this case, if the Mod Team decided that they were going to package POTC as a whole (a 2gb package alone) with or in their mod to make it a task to offer it to people, or sell the newly package POTC off for money. That is then stealing, and we'd be asked to cease all downloads of the mod.

The point in the matter is - I see no fault in a no CD patch to POTC. If Disney finds this to be a problem, they can lookup my `e-mail` address on this site and give me their two cents about it.
