first, Voodoo magic!
all of these things came up at the piratehideout, most of these things my own. the idea is that you would turn into a skeleton if you had an aztec coin or if you had all the skulls. or maybe if you had both?

second:
It could be handy if you could drop an anchor to immediatly stop your ship so you don't drift on after striking you sails. It wouldn't have to be visual, just functional. you could also use this to lay still in a storm to gather xp for instance. the reason i'm suggesting this is because when i had a manowar and i striked all sails,(at the assault of greenford, modded)
i noticed only just in time that i was slowly drifting towards the cliff face. i managed to steer out of it's way, but i just missed the rocks with my bowsprit by a few centimeters
i think i know which buttons to use. just use the strike sail button to drop the anchor when you are heaving to drift, and press the make sail button to hoist it.

third:
i have the POTC music modpack, and i have a few songs that could be added. these are still the same in-game,
but i know of some POTC replacements to make it full
POTC. i don't know how to upload these files on the site however, and they are at least 1MB large each.

for the tavern: the music playing in the tortuga tavern, and a pirates life for me.

for the jungle: the music playing on the cannibals island.(i have two, but one of them has a really silly ending, maybe i'll put it up here as well if i can.

for the storms: the song playing during the battle against the kraken! may seem innapropriate, but it fits really well!

if it's easier to just look them up for yourselves, their names are:
two hornpipes(with or without capitals, i don't know)
yo-ho, yo-ho(obvious)
the kraken
jack sparrow, dead man's cheast( there are two jack sparrow songs, one from the first, and one from the second movie. you need the second)

i found them with the limewire search engine. it DOES matter how you spell it. for instance:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates of the Carribean
pirates of the caribbean, etc.
searching again under exactly the same name gives different results every time, and sometimes a link doesn't work. in those cases, look for a file that has the same name, but doesn't show that it was interrupted or something. it means that it is a different file.

what do you think?

Well Thomas the Terror(a long lost relative of yours? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) already mentioned one feature. The other point on the whole 'magic' thing is that for the most part you will find the majority of modders here prefer the more realistic setting of 'actual' pirate life in the 15th-16th century. I did look at ways of sort of introducing 'witch-doctors/herbalists' as sort of shop services, an extension of the apothacry we have in the game so far. So it wouldn't have all sort of magic spells etc, but it would trade 'healing' potions etc. Spells/Magic as a player manipulated 'reality' in game, i'm personaly not that keen on.

Again i'm afraid 'reality' rears its head here for me - i've been toying with the idea that if you drop anchor while travelling faster than 4 knots you might actualy loose the anchor(and have to buy another from the shipwrights).
In real life you dont stop dead when you drop anchor - it takes a bit of time for the anchor to bed itself into the sea floor, so i'm not keen on this unless maybe it was restricted to 'arcade sailing' mode in the game?

More music is a good idea, it would be nice to have a random selection play for each kindof location. I guess the problem would be copyright issues, and you should be carefull with sites like Limewire(its a file share site right?), they often carry virus in the downloads.

About 1: Maximus made a mod where you indeed turn into a skeleton if you take a cursed coin out of a chest. This mod was not finished though and that is why it is not in the Build 13 Beta. I personally like "magic" things in the game as long as the game doesn't turn into a fantasy game. I like a game world that is as realistic as possible, but some magic stuff thrown in just for fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

About 2: Might be possible to set the speed to 0 by pressing a button or using an ability. Could indeed be useful. Not sure how to do it though.

About 3: You can put files on the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5178" target="_blank">Public FTP</a>.
"A pirate's life for me" is already in the game, both vocal and instrumental, but it's not actually used. Easily enabled by modifying music_alias.ini. The Tortuga tavern music is already added in the Build 13 Beta versions. The jungle track you propose might be nice, but it's short and not entirely appropriate to just walking in a jungle. Now if we would actually add canibals into the game, that WOULD make a good addition. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I don't like the kraken music at all, so I wouldn't put that into one of the Builds. But you can make an additional download for the Build that includes it.

As long as we are throwing new ideas around, how about making Letters of Marque work a little more closer to the reality? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The reality, if I understand correctly, was that you could only keep 10% of the loot, wasn't it?

i didn't know about the coin yet thanks! i do agree that there should only be magic occasionly, but only a little, just for fun.
i hadn't thought about the anchor-chain breaking. it could actually result in the scene from the film when they turn by anchor now you mention it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> i actually already have a system for stopping: smash into someone else! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> it isn't that user friendly though.
er, the jungle track i mean is over six minutes long. that's a lot longer than the original. aren't you confusing it with something else? if you're not confusing it with something else, i do agree that it has a bit to much action in it. as for the kraken, i guess i could always put it in myself.(if i figured out how) i didn't know about the copyright issues. it could be a problem when the files are distributed around the world. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
i'm actually not that much of a modder, but i think i could figure out how to change the tracks. and where is the file for 'a pirates life for me' anyway? i have it myself, but i never found it in the gamefiles. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

as i said, only a little magic just for fun. i don't wnt to turn this into a fantasy game either.

I do like a bit of fantasy though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I meant the track "Dinner Is Served" from the Dead Man's Chest soundtrack. It's 1:29 long and has quite silly music as the second half. The first half is cool though, especially for a cannibal village. Whattrack do you mean?

There are several music packs on my site, including a PotC:CotBP one, a M&C one and a Cutthroat Island one. This is of course also copyright infringement.

Folder: RESOURCE\Sounds\MUSIC
Files: YoHo_instrumental.ogg" and "YoHo_With_Vocals.ogg"

the sound track i mean is called 01_Jack Sparrow_Hans Zimmer_Pirates Of The Caribbean (Dead Man's Chest).
The one you mean is suitable, but it does have a silly end. maybe this can be cut? i am going to wait untill the final build 13 comes out. then i'll put the file you just metioned for the tavern in. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Don't rightly know about that, but this 'ere website has (supposed) examples of some letters of marque.
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Garden/5213/marque2.htm" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Garden/5213/marque2.htm</a>
They read interesting, though it doesn't always provide any info on where the webmaster got the text from. Read with caution maybe.
The 1703 English one is interesting for the stipulation that the letter is valid for a mere sixth months (presumably in case Queen Anne's War ended sooner than they thought). The 1695 one for William Kidd is notable also for asking for full details (to the nth degree) of the persons and prizes taken and the arms and goods on board and the stipulation that captured pirates and privateers were to be brought to the authorities for trial not summarily executed.

interesting.......i have an idea to build on the Letter of Marque if we impliment this 6 month limit. why not set it so that it checks to see whether you've sunk and/or boarded 5 ships belonging to the enemy/enemies of the country you serve, and if so, renews the Letter of Marque. if not, forget it, your back to a normal captain.

as for voodoo......i think we really need the skeleton one. how're they going to be implemented? is it going to be like a normal character gets a random skeleton model assigned to them? and will Jack Sparrow Junior's Skeleton Jack finally make an appearence, for the Depp Model?

i personally would like new music, though the Kraken i'm thinking of switching with Davy Jones. it was played in a storm, afterall...

and, the anchor ideas definately need to go in. maybe if at full sail, the ability appears to make a "anchor left" or "anchor right" to make a hard turn to attack the enemies with the cannons. if heaving to drift, hitting the strike sails button again should be enough to drop the anchors, and bring the ship to a stop soon after. maybe a 4 second time delay, and then a sudden very fast drop in speeds. what say you? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Be careful with the music_alias.ini file. There is a limit in there where the game stops playing OTHER sounds because too many music definitions have been added (even if they are not in use).

One way to be able to cleanly add more music to a single game, would be to eliminate all those duplicate other music schemes from the file. ONLY HAVE ONE SCHEME in the file, and you will be able to add more music to a single scheme.

Then, make multiple files for different schemes, but they MUST NOT be placed in the aliases folder. They have to be 'swapped out'. This is because the game loads in EVERY INI FILE wither it be called for or NOT, and having two music_alias.ini and music_alias.back.ini files... it will load them BOTH in, causing lots of issues.

The INI folders are the only ones that need to be clean and maintained in this manner, because of the way the game loads all those in. "c" and "h" files it only loads in on demand given the code asks for it. That is why you see a bunch of extra 'junk' C files in the root PROGRAM directory.

i love the davy jones soundtrack! too bad it's so short though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
i have been thinking about the anchor idea, and i often stike sail if i want to stop long before i'm there anyway,
so the speed limit shouldn't be a problem. the turning by anchor is actually very similar to the quick turnaround ability. maybe it should just be renamed and/or programmed in a way that you can choose how long you use it. i'd just love to see the look on the enemy's face when i make a quick 90 degree turn and blast them to bits. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

thanks about the warning about the music files.

lol. it is a shame, isn't it? i absolutely loved it when i saw the film, and was constantly listening to it when i got hold of it. the quick turn around name editing idea is good. i think we should have 2 abilities, the anchor turn left, and anchor turn right, basicly a VERY powerful steering wheel. wanna laugh? try doing it to an enemy while sailing HMS Victory, with 112 fully armed guns <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> . you can bet that'll give the enemy a headache.....<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

Another great sailing/pirate movie that had pretty good music was a mid 80's flick called 'Nate & Hayes'. Have had a tough time finding a copy of it available on DVD though. And my old VHS copy is unavailable and pretty beat up as it is.

Cap'n Drow

112!? cool! that IS fun. i know the HMS Victory from the game 'cossacks' it was amazing! that thing could fire across an entire island and blast everything in its path to smithereens. to bad it was such a bad game though.
those graphics where terrible! that anchor turning has saved me many times. i really think the two turning abilities should be put in to improve on it.

i imagine that the ship can't really handle the turn by anchor, so what if you use it you get damaged?
for each second that you use it, you get a certain amount of damage. i realised that you shouldn't be able to make a turn larger than 180 degrees, as the anchor would be pulled loose if you did.

As far as I know, when <i>HMS Interceptor</i> used it in the movie, it did get damaged - that's why there was a water in the hold when Will went down to search for the medallion <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

well, i did see something break off when the anchor cought a rock, but my guess is that there was water in the ship because it was full of holes after the black pearl had fired its guns. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
