Actress Maureen O’Hara has finally been given the honor she has deserved for quite some time, the 94 year old actress has finally been given an honorary Oscar! She was presented the award by Liam Neeson and Clint Eastwood at the Governors Awards gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Not only was she one of the best actresses in Hollywood during it's golden years, she was absolutely gorgeous and sizzling on screen! It was her performances that helped bring out the best in those working on screen with her.

This was an honor that was long overdue! During her career she has started alongside great actors like John Wayne, Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power, John Payne, Cornel Wilde, Anthony Quinn, and Errol Flynn just to name a few. She also starred in several swashbucklers and helped bring the genre to the forefront in Hollywood. She stared in many, many more movies in many different genres, but here is some of her best in our favorite genre! You can read the full story over at Irish Times HERE!

FrontiersLA.com has good write up and biography on her, but it surprisingly does not even mention any of these fantastic movies! Although there is this reference which I find quite fascinating :

Unlike most actresses, Maureen O'Hara seemed to grow more beautiful as she got older. But the part of a lifetime was denied her. When her old studio 20th Century Fox made the film version of The King and I, they chose the non-singer Deborah Kerr to play the lead. Apparently Rodgers and Hammerstein considered her "that pirate lady" and did not even allow her to test for the part. Maureen would have been perfect for the role. She was the right coloring, the right age and she could sing, as her numerous albums prove. Although Deborah Kerr was wonderful in the film, she was dubbed, and the role of Anna was not the great success it could have been with Maureen O'Hara.
