Anyone have this problem play 5 min. lockup have to reboot play 5 min.lockup have to reboot seems like every other screen it locks up. I have the new 11 mods installed and a nvida gforce 3 with the new drivers??any suggestions? :x

Well it dont matter where I be matey when im say on the dock and go into town or me ship or whenever I goes when the screen changes, loads a new aera 9out of ten times she be a locken up and nees a rebooten so im about to throw potc to davey jones locker.sorry to say. :p::
 
Can you let us know more about the spec of your PC and wether you are runnign any other programs at the same time?

Also we will need to know if you have installed any other mods other then the Build 11.
 
These "lock Ups" sounds like a multitasking problem, seen it before ......
do you have any programs running same time as POTC, that means also programs like NAV, Norton Personal Firewall and so.....
NAV. WILL stop anything while it scans the file your trying to open, that is if POTC engine opens a file like oxbay.c, NAV tries to scan the file and then you can have a "frezing" prob.

Solution(perhaps) , try close all resident programs and run POTC , see if the lockup comes back, plz give a feedback.....

Well jack jr your probley right i had a performance problem with my flight simulator program I have this program that kills everything that is not nessary to running windows arrrgh kill windows i have not tried that as far as the other. no norton i took it off long time ago its crap made the comp slow
its a custom built have an athelon prossesser 955mgh nvida gf3 I do run zonealarm when im olnine if not i get thousands of spyware and intruders. never tried turning it off. ill check that out tonight i be at work now watching the real life pirates of socity. ill let ye know how that works out the only build i have is the new 11
 
an updated windows and a dx9 CAN slow up an older comp ......
but a hd filled up with crab can also slow down windoze
my old one a p3/`600-256ddr`-gf4/64ddr waz a bit slow, but acc. to the grafics gard it ran potc allmost without lag, and no "`lock-ups`",

I know that the zonealarm CAN stop a file resident in the memory, that could cause this treat. If your on a lan, just deactivate the net adapter and close `zone-alarm`, and ckeck the potc runs smoothly.

well folks looks like potc is headded to the bottom of the deep i have tried everything i know and still locks up ive shut everything down not needed put in new drivers but in old drivers im at a loss and can not play a game that locks up every min so its been fun while it lasted ...but im tired of rebooting.
 
With the Build 11 there is a program called PotCModHelper.exe in the TOOLS folder that might help us to find out what the problem is.

If you run that it can genereate a report and hopefully there is something there that will let us work out what the problem is.
 
Aye,dont be given up yet mate,I run GF3 card wid wid zonealarm and antivirus runn'n I'd be .ave'n no problems,or wid any of de builds doing that. :cheers

Did the game run OK without any mods?
If not then there is a problem with your PC and not the game itself. It should be a problem that we can help you to fix.

OK first suggestion is to run the Update as some of thse error messages happened to me before I updated.
There are a few ways to update and the easiest is to run the `build11-standard`.exe program again and select the Online Updates" and "European version" if you have got a non US version. It is a small download so you won't need to spend hours downloading it.

The next suggestion is to see if your graphics card is running `Anti-aliasing` as that has been known to cause some problems including lockups and having to reboot.


The last suggestion is to try a clean install as the second log has come up with:

So the character.c file could be corrupt. If you PM me with your email address I can send you a copy from my install of POTC, but there could be some other files that have somehow been corrupted.
 
well to be honest I cant remember I belive it ran on at least better than it did
ill try the update again i did that when i first put them in I dont have a europen version i know that for sure and if that dont work i guess ill try a renstall im off aftre tonight so ill have some time to mess with it... :D :?:
 
I'm also looking for some help, my problem is very similar to the others that I am seeing so I won't hold my breath for a solution. Before I begin my computer specs are:

Windows XP Home
MSI K7T Tourbo 2 mainboard
AMD XP 2600+
768 MB pc133 SDRAM
Power Color Radeon 9700 Pro (Newest Omega Drivers)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card
All drivers and bios are current.

My game will work fine if I start a new game (I'm not using any mods yet just the retail game.) I can play all aspects of the game with out any lockups for as long as I can stay awake, I will have made good progress in the game at which point I will save the game. the next day when I try to resume my game it will again work fine until I go to the world map to sail to another island and thats were my lockup occurs. I can reload my save game and again I can walk around, I can use the sail to command, I can board my ship and sail out of the harbor but as soon as I go to the world map it locks up and I get the windows XP crash window that says: Engine.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close!!!! Frustrating because the game is a blast to play. If I want to play I have to start a new game again and I can play as long as I want, the world map and all work good, it's just returning to the game later to play from my save game that it always locks up on the World map. I've tried other drivers, I've tried closing all apps running in the background, I've turned off AA in my video card settings and I even reformatted my hard drive and reloaded just the basic necessities back on and tried it and it still does the exact same thing. I tried on my kids computer that has an Nvidia gforce 4 ti 4200 and it did the same thing on that comp as well. I'm stumped! any help would be greatly appreciated, I would like to work my way up to a bigger ship someday. Sorry if I was to long winded but I wanted to get all the info in. :yes: :cheers
 
I had some similar probs on my old comp .....
then I installed the `re-ini` mod ......
and used it after every load game ....
the CTD and the `Lock-up` disapeared....

I also did contact Bethesda soft, but they would not help acc. my system req. waz NOT meet.

But with this comp.... no probs .....

So i suggest you try a `re-ini` mod. ..... or just take the whole build11
you can do as me .....

one dir to the "clean" potc and another dir to the "build'ed" potc
both versions work .......

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give your suggestions a try. I also talked to Bethesda soft and they had me send them a copy of my save game and my direct x info which I did, and to my surprise they contacted me to say that they recieved the files and that the save game also locked on them. I'm hoping that they may figure it out, but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks again :blah: :rolleyes::
