Is there any way to decrease the number of chasing pirates?

I cant believe it!

I dont know if this is happening only to me, but its horribly boring! I always have a number of pirate ships chasing me no matter where I go, I have to fight them zillions of times and still come back. Its highly annoying and I dont know what to do!. Is there any way to decrease the number of pirate chasers, turn this down a bit?

Fred Bob's Advice:

1) Stop bein' such a ready target fer dem greedy pirates!

2) Sink 'em, i.e. send 'em tew Davy!

3) Board them before they board ye!

well i agree it sometimes becasue a bit to much and actually becomes really boring lets say u just sunk one to davy jones and then not 10 sec's later another ones comes around the corner ready to meet davy jones lol

So we definatly need to look into this, i will see what i can find.

just took a look at it and i found out they forgot to add 1 single line with all the pirate encounters, specifically the chance to encounter them, i just added it and for fun and test put it on 0 and u know what i had no pirate encounters so it works, now the question would be offcourse what should i place the encounter chance at ? The man-o-warr armada and fleet encounters are all at 30% chance and that is a little low so i was thinking about 60% but let me know what ya'll think.

Another cool thing i just enabled the bounty hunters, which was also located there and for fun i set it at 100% encounter and yup u gues it there we met a bounty hunter with a big man-o-war hunting me down lmao so even the bounty hunters can be enabled <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

An easy way to get rid of unwanted guests is to hit F3 as soon as they are in range. You will be out of their reach and able to engage or sail away again by pressing F3 once more. One less pirate fleet. Very easy to do but a bit lame but sometimes I just can't be arsed to take on a single sloop in my MoW. ;-)

After having the same problem serveral times, i decided to start as a pirate and guess what... no annoying pirates at all and everyone but the spanish guys like me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.

So if you don't want to modifie anything, just follow my advice and start as a pirate to avoid that silly chasing.

Well, I like to play as a loyal spanish privateer, and I'd like to keep playing this way. Don't discard plaiying pirate some day, tho.

Im interested in cyberops findings... wheres the file where you found that?

you need to modify the encounters.ini but be carefull because a wrong modification causes the game to crash.

I guess that this encounters.ini file is in the all important \program folder that I dont have in my game version... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

For some reason, in the spanish (or european, i dont know if it happens in all Playlogic versions, because in my DVD there are game texts and voices for all languages) version, theres no \program folder. Theres only a big program.dat file in the game root dir, I guess that they compiled all those scripts for some reason, maybe so Playlogic or we european pigs couldnt tweak their files <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Can anybody with playlogic versions confirm if they have that dir or not? Or there's any way to 'extract' that files in to moddable text files?
