Interesting potential (minor) bug

It seems when you do the Escape from Oxbay/Speightstown quest where you capture a french ship, it is possible to retain both Rabel Yverneau and Tobias as officers. This happens when you capture 2 ships and assign them both as the captains. When you return to Redmond/Port Royale, you will appear in the governors office with Rabel and Tobias, they will walk out as usual and they are still captains of your captured ships. Not sure if this is a bug or by design, but it's a good way to get a lvl 12 officer witth a fair number of abilities fairly early in the game, as a plus he is a comrade in arms as opposed to a paid officer.

The other bug I noticed is that some ships seem to not display a name or portrait. If these are in your fleet, it seems to cause a CTD at the world map.

This also happened in the original game, "The Teacher" could be retained the exactly the same way, so it may be a bug but I don't think it matters at all

Yeah, this is why I suggested it may be by design, still figured the peeps might like to know since Rabel is a pretty good find for a free officer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The only "problem" with doing this is that you can't get rid of them since they don't have the correct dialogs. Not a big deal though.

You could always kill them off <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> (unless of course they are immortal)

Is there any way you can keep...ohhh....whatshisname, the guy whose troopship you escort to that place off Greenford? I always hoped someone would eventually write up a quest for him later in the game.

Ewan Glover???

No as he is a companion not an officers. I indeed think his role is small and I did want it to be bigger
I am however to busy with JS to write a sidequest for him I'm afraid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Indeed expanding Ewan Glover's role is something I've been thinking of too. His dialog does suggest you should meet again. But then you don't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
I don't think this issue is intentional, but it's too harmless to bother with fixing I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Yep, that's him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> I had actually pondered trying to write a sidequest for him myself, but I don't have a clue as to how to write quests, so that's out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

We've got plenty of questwriters here now who can help you.
If you come up with a story, we'll be able to help you put it in the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

the simplist way to learn Stallion is write a draft of what you want to happen and then look at other quests that have similar things happening and seeing if you can get it to work in your sidequest.

If you do get stuck all you have to do is start a thread and one of our questwriters (me included) will try and help you to get unstuck <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hmmm, that is tempting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Don't expect anything soon, though - what I have in mind will probably take quite a while to put into words, especially since it may involve evil vegetables. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> If I'm gonna do this, it's got to be weird. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Ewan Glover does have a start point when he talks about Silhard to Nathanial in Greenford tavern. Silhard has sent a new frigatejust arrived from England off on his own tasks. Nathanial says he will confront Silhard about this but never does. This is a good start for the side quest.

Isn't this part of the main quest already? Wasn't this fregate given by Silehard to Raoul Reims for him to search the treasure/tablets/island whatever?

If I remember well, you don't always get the chat in the tavern. Maybe the character reapearance could depend on how you interacted with him at that point.

If we would use again Ewan Glover, I would personally make him come back after the capture of Greenford. And I wouldn't involve evil vegetables...

That sounds pretty good, a simple virtual sailor. So what would Ewan be doing after the Greenfort capture?

A Norrington type English man! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Have him become a pirate because he learnt what Silehard was doing with that frigate and once you take Greenford he comes and finds you again

Just a suggestion

That sounds like a good idea. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> I was pondering the evil veggie route because I thought maybe there'd be a way to work in Pieter's salad shooter. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Ewan could return upon hearing that Silehard has escaped from prison back home, and has made his way back to the Caribbean on a frigate ("The Spud") armed with cannons of the "salad shooter" type - a highly experimental production of a crazed German weapons engineer which are capable of sinking Man O'Wars in one broadside or taking whole towns in a couple of shots. This is a threat the likes of which the Caribbean has never seen before or since. Barring the Cuban Missile Crisis, that is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Or are my ideas for quests a wee bit too wacky for everyone? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I take that as a Yes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Oh well - now y'all know why I never bothered writing a quest before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Salad shooter cannon is a good gatling-cannon thingy to have in the game as a cheating item. It's like that shotgun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> So what's wrong with that.. you'll just be able to reload insanely fast and blast every manowar out of the water in matter of seconds! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Me wants that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

..err I was speaking of having that cannon in CoAS. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Oops.. didn't looked where the thread was located. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

...actually, that wasn't really a 'yes'.

Another shotgun-like stuff? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sick.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eww" border="0" alt="sick.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdown.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2dn" border="0" alt="thumbsdown.gif" />

If you want to add such a thing, I wouldn't add it in the standart main quest.

Deep One, you know what this 'shotgun' means for me? Endless bugs - this weapon being sold by everyone even if it shouldn't, etc. Besides, when I first found it I didn't made me laught, at all. If I remember well, one person even came to the forum saying he nearly stop playing the game when he found such an overkill-breaking-the-game item. For me, the best thing would be to remove it altogether. 'Easteregg'... ya right.
